I just need to know if any complications could happen if i get a lumpectomy done?

I just need to know if any complications could happen if i get a lumpectomy done?

No procedure: Is without risks of complications, but the risk is small from tylectomy/lumpectomy. The choice is not to have or not, it's to have a lumpectomy, if the biopsy shows cancer, or have a mastectomy, and the risk of complications rise with the magnitude of the surgery and the attempt to reconstruct. ...Read more

Wow, : Wow, it sounds as though you have been through a lot! many people who have chronic illnesses or have been through serious illnesses can have residual anxiety and/or depression stemming from their experiences. It may be helpful to you to have someone to talk to while you are dealing with all of these very stressful situations. The worry, the crying, the avoiding other people, the pain from clenched muscles make me concerned that you are experiencing either anxiety, depression or both. You should call your doctor to let them know how you are feeling. I promise you, you are not the first! they may be able to refer you to a psychologist or psychiatrist that may be able to give you the support and tools that you need in order to deal with everything you've been going through in a healthier, happier way. This is way more common than many people think, so don't hesitate to get help! ...Read more

More side effects: A mastectomy is designed to remove the entire breast because of a large tumor that tends to extend into the surrounding breast tissue. The incision at best is transverse and about 10 cm. A lumpectomy is a wide biopsy leaving most of the breast tissue and used when the entire small lesion can be encompassed by the lumpectomy. The side effects here are minimal compared to mastectomy. ...Read more

Is imrt a much better option than 3dcrt for me who had a lumpectomy done for dcis on my right breast ?

Is imrt a much better option than 3dcrt for me who had a lumpectomy done for dcis on my right breast ?

Probably Not: Imrt is not generally used for right side dcis as there is usually no or little benefit over imrt and in fact I have seen imrt plans look worse. Imrt may be recommended to treat the right breast in certain situations such as for women with very large breasts, prior radiation therapy to a nearby area, or trouble positioning their arm above their head to name a few. ...Read more

Hi docs! i'm diagnosed w dcis. Will i b more susceptible to cancers in other areas? Lumpectomy done n now due for crt.

Increased for breast: Since your body has shown that it knows how to develop one of these, it does increase your risk of making another breast tumor somewhere else in one of your breasts. The chance of this one coming back will be very low while the chance of making a new one is slightly higher than in a woman who has never had a breast tumor. Your increased risk of making other cancers is now significantly higher. ...Read more
