Does it hurt to get a chemical peel done?

Peels help skin: Peels come as deep, medium and superficial. The deeper the peel the more discomfort and down time one has. Superficial peels can provide good results if done with frequency. Melange peel is a deep peel for pigment problems or the mini melange is no down time but great for pigment and on ethnic skin. Using daily skin care products to exfoliate the skin and depigment it are just as critical. ...Read more

Chemical Peel (Definition)

A chemical peel is typically a controlled burn administered with an acid to the surface of the skin. Superficial, medium and deep peels are available with no, 1 week and several weeks of downtime. Peels burn the outer layer of the skin (superficial) or variable amounts of the dermis to increase collagen, elastin, remove dark spots and fine wrinkles and give ...Read more

Where do I go to get a chemical peel done?

Where do I go to get a chemical peel done?

Best to see MD: If you want good results. Deeper peels give more impressive results. However, these meical grade peels should only be done by md's with experience (facial plastic surgeons/dermatologists). Medical grade peels should only be done on the face, never on neck or any where else (high risk of scarring). Superficial peels can be done by aestheticians but won't do much dramatic wrinkle reduction. ...Read more

There : There are a few options when it comes to skin resurfacing for acne scar and pigmentation issues. Chemical peels and lasers are two options. Another option that works well for treating just portions of the face is dermabrasion. This produces more of a physical sanding of the skin. The idea with all 3 procedures is to remove the outer layer of skin cells. New skin then regrows into the area to create a smoother, more even pigmentation. ...Read more

Chemical peels,: Laser resurfacing, and dermabrasion are all methods of removing a portion of the skin surface that stimulates healing, and development of collagen and elastic fibers (along with a new skin surface) that reduces (but does not remove) scars. If your skin is sensitive, the treatments designed to reduce acne scarring will need to be less severe (and will be less effective). Laser may be most precise. ...Read more

Yes, : Yes, skin resurfacing to treet acne scars and sunspots can be done with lasers. Besides chemical peels dermabrasion is another option. The goal with any of the treatments is to remove the outer layers of skin cell to then allow the body to reline with new, fresh skin cells. I wouldn't say that one method is any less harsh than the other necessarily. That are lasers available that are non-ablative (don't actually remove skin cells) that can help treat pigmentation problems. This would be less harsh for your skin but wouldn't be expected to improve your acne scarring. ...Read more

I'm going to get a chemical peel and I want to know if there is anything I have to do prepare my skin for this? Or is it not necessary?

Depends : Some peels like the Vi do not require preparation. However some others are better if for a few weeks pre peel you have a regimen of hydroquinone and retin-a which is discontinued a week before the peel. I would speak to your doctor about if you require a pre peel program ...Read more
