Consult psychiatrist: Hi there. I am a paychologist, medication is not my specialty. Having worked with many clients with OCD, I would strongly suggest that you consult with a psychiatrist to describe your symptoms, provide a thorough history, and express your concerns. The psychiatrist should be able to guide you. I usually find a combination of therapy and medication works best. ...Read more

How much inositol powder should I take to treat ocd?

How much inositol powder should I take to treat ocd?

Probably 12 g daily: An increase in inositol in the brain seems to be one of the outcomes of ssri treatment, so it's sensible to consider what might happen if one simply takes inositol. Studies have shown that it seems to work like the ssris. One study found that 6 g a day helped with depression, though 12 g were required in a double-blind study. Sometimes it's difficult to tolerate because of flatulence and cramps. ...Read more

What is the right inositol dosage for mild OCD and how many times a day?

The right dose: Inositol, one of the B vitamins, is not formally indicated for the treatment of OCD and has some interactions, including one with Lithium, that can be dangerous. The literature suggests that between 2 and 18 gm/day in divided doses can be effective. You should definitely talk with your health care provider before starting an inositol titration. ...Read more

Is it normal to have strong OCD bout during inositol course 3 teaspoons/3x per day?

Yes: While there is some evidence that ocd can respond to inositol, the evidence is not as strong as the evidence for ssri's (like zoloft, prozac, paxil (paroxetine)...). However, I do not know you dose without knowing how much medicine is in a teaspoon. You should be on 2000 mg of inositol so check how much is in a teaspoon. ...Read more

I was on ciprelax for 3 yrs. I stoped it 2 mnths ago to try inositol, but my OCD attacked bady I resume taking it 13 days but feeling vey anxious?

This is workable: Ssri medications can sometimes cause anxiety in the beginning. When one has anxiety and ocd there is region of the brain that is over active. Mindfulness meditation is very helpful. See kelly mcgonigal's the will power instinct. Inositol can be useful for ocd but one needs a very high dose (up to 16 gm a day). Check 25-oh vit d3, it might be low. A healthy life style helps, too. ...Read more

Does OCD cause you to masturbate?

Does OCD cause you to masturbate?

Not really: You're looking at OCD a bit backwards. The behaviors are symptoms of the disorder, not caused by the disorder. For you one of your compulsive behaviors may be self-stimulation, a nice way to say masturbation. It could just as easily be washing hands 100 times a day, or changing your shoes every 5 minutes. Since this is an anxiety disorder, sexual symptoms /behaviors may indicate problems there ...Read more

Does OCD cause you do masturbate?

OCD does not cause: masturbation or anything else. It can get your attention so focused on any behavior that you start doing that compulsively to ward off imagined dangers, most of which one cannot even name. Thus one can count objects, walk a certain way, etc. But it is the symptom, not the cause. Please see a mental health professional who specializes in OCD for support. Peace and good health. ...Read more

Can pure OCD cause a lot of mood changes?

Not directly: Obviously, having severe OCD symptoms can be discouraging or even depressing, but mood changes are not an inherent part of ocd. When depression sometimes coincides with OCD — and it does somewhat more than chance would suggest — it is diagnosed separately. On a related note, ssri antidepressants also can treat OCD symptoms, as they help anxiety disorders too. ...Read more

Does a teenage growth spurt make OCD worse?

Not really: Because OCD is complex, I understand why you ask. I have not noted this nor has a quick survey point to this. The significant shifts in hormonal change-particularly with growth spurt- certainly should be thoroughly considered. If OCD began around puberty, up urgency. ...Read more

Skills vs pills: Age alone does not seem to make ocd better or worse. You say meds haven't helped. Have you tried therapy? Particularly cognitive and behavioral therapies are helpful. The key is to keep trying new techniques and ways of managing the symptoms, finding enough of the ones that work for you. There isn't a 1 size fits all, unfortunately.
