Does Hydroxychloroquine Suppress The Immune System
Really challenging: This is far too complex to even scratch the surface, as not too much is known regarding the full effects of marijuana. But, there is some evidence of benefits on spasticity in ms, but also, theoretical issues with interaction with ms drugs, such as gilenya (fingolimod). Lung function can be affected, and this would disturb the first line immune system indirectly. All the answers not known yet. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
No: I have not heard any that dairy can weaken the immune system. Some people mostly young children have a hypersensitivity or allergy to milk protein. This does not effect other aspects of the immune response to pathogens (germs). There is also a condition of infancy in which milk can cause intestinal bleeding but that's transient. ...Read more
Two stages: Natural Killer cells are the first immune step that seeks out the malaria to mark it for the body to "kill" it. A second step is the T cell that also seeks the genetic marker of the malaria to flag it for a "kill". Since malaria invades natural cells of the body it can begin to hide from the immune system and replicate. Consider vaccination if traveling in high risk areas with malaria. ...Read more
Does Crohn's cause an overactive immune system or does an overactive immune system cause Crohn's? Stay away from foods that boost the immune system?
Roque immune system: I think one need to think more about a rogue immune reaction thereby causing autoimmune disorder instead of an overactive one. An autoimmune problem happens when the immune system malfunctions and starts attacking one's own tissue thereby leading to illnesses such as Crohn's disease, lupus etc. ...Read more
Lowers WBC counts: Chemotherapy slows down the production of white blood cells (WBC) for a few days which makes patient susceptible to catch infection. This effect on blood cells is short lived, such that most patients recover in 3-4 weeks and so does their immunity. By and large it is a minor problem and can be safely monitored by an oncologist/specialist in the use of Chemotherapy. ...Read more

Hits white bld cells: The HIV virus (leading to aids) attacks and destroys a critical white blood cell of the immune system: the "cd4+ t-helper" cell. With these cells knocked out, the body's immune system is crippled and left unable to fight off infections which would ordinarily be easily handled by a normal immune system. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Complicated: Natural killer cells can recognize tumor cells and virally infected cells and destroy those. T-cells and antibodies to markers on tumor cells may also destroy tumor cells. Unfortunately, most of the time, some cancer cells evade this destruction and continue the disease process. The hope and potential of immune therapy remains to be realized. ...Read more
Does cancer weaken the immune system or does the medication for the cancer (chemotherapy) weaken the immune system?
Cancer and immunity: Interesting question. Cancer usually either fools or overwhelms the immune system as the latter usually keeps cancer cells in check. Medications for cancer vary, some kill the good and the bad and wipe out the immune system with the cancer cells and the new biologics are targeted therapy that only kill cancer cells. Science is progressing, stay tuned.. ...Read more
Yes, yes, yes.: Trust me, yes. Now you're getting into a lot of the biology and science of the human body, detailed analysis of immunity and the immune system, the plasticity and flexibility of the brain--once thought to be set in its ways, the human mind (the brain is physical matter, the mind is much much deeper, and machine will never even approach the complexity of the mind (no matter what cousin ray says)! ...Read more
