I'm f, 5'6(tall), thin, long arms&legs, hands r big w/long fingers &are flexible, but my body is not flexible, narrow face&jaw, do I have Marfan syndrome?

Can be cryptic: Most people who are thin do not have a connective tissue disease (marfan syndrome.) there is a formal diagnostic approach for suspected Marfan syndrome, though, and it is worth reading. Here is a link to a helpful site:

I am a 25-year-old african american female with extremely long legs, long arms, and a very short torso. I suffer from mid and lower back pain. Is there a way to lengthen my torso at this age?

Not at your age: I do not know of any medical treatments for surgery that can lengthen a spine. Unless you have scoliosis and with surgical or non-surgical intervention, straightening the back will make your torso longer and in normal configuration. ...Read more

Could having long arms mean I will get taller?

Genetics: Your profile says you are 50. At that point you are not going to grow, no matter how long your arms are! If you are a teen using your parents Healthtap site, then final height is not related to your arm length. Whether you grow taller is determined by whether you are through with puberty or not and if your growth plates on your leg bones have closed. ...Read more

Can bruising on arms and legs mean vasculitis?

Nonspecific, but: May be indicative of medication reaction, such as anti-platelet drug group, acquisition of a clotting disorder, such as thrombocytopenia of any sort, and can be an issue in such severe events like bacterial endocarditis, or meningococcal meningitis, or Ebola, but you do NOT have any of these, of course. Hello. I started working out in 2013, then I stopped working out altogether. 3 years later, my arms and legs look smaller and I gained weight. Why?

That's what happens: When we exercise less, our muscles get smaller and weaker. When we continue eating more calories than we use up each day, the extra is stored as fat (awaiting the day we have a famine and need to use the stored fat). That's how nature works. To reverse this, one can just eat or drink FEWER calories than is being used each day, and resume exercising. ...Read more

What does it mean when cancer patients begin to retain fluids in arms and legs?

What does it mean when cancer patients begin to retain fluids in arms and legs?

Several reasons: — inadequate nutrition; protein in particular is low
— tumor clogging the lymphatics which normally drain fluid out of the limbs. This is rare for more than one limb to be affected.
— heart is not adequately pumping fluid through the body
— kidneys are not effectively "letting go" of excess fluid through urination
— certain medications (especially steroids like prednisone) can cause this. ...Read more

What does it mean when you're 31weeks and the arms and legs are measuring 2weeks behind at sonogram screening

What does it mean when you're 31weeks and the arms and legs are measuring 2weeks behind at sonogram screening

Not much: Because you are 3/4 of the way through your pregnancy, those ultrasound measurements are less and less accurate regarding due date calculation. Now, we are entering into the arena of size/shape variability. This is probably completely normal. At this point, the most important things on ultrasound are heart, brain, kidney, and other vital organ evaluations. You have 9 weeks of booties to knit! ...Read more

How long does it take to tone your arms and legs after getting out of shape at 55?

How long does it take to tone your arms and legs after getting out of shape at 55?

Who cares just start: If you were previously in good shape, it will likely take less time, but it takes anybody time to adapt to exercise. The rule of thumb is that it takes twice as long as the time away from the gym to return to your previous level (eg 1 month away takes 2 months to recover). If you have been gone for a while, give yourself at least 3-6 months to work back into shape. ...Read more

Can upper back pinch nerve paralyze arms and legs if untreated? How long does it take if so?

Can upper back pinch nerve paralyze arms and legs if untreated? How long does it take if so?

It is possible but: It would have to be a massive central disc herniation especially if the spinal canal is stenotic or smaller than normal. Been breaking out in small random rashes for last 3 months. On arms and legs. Lasts no longer than 10 minutes and goes away. Justrred and itchy?

Sounds like hives: Which can be triggered by allergies, & stress. Sometimes an antihistamine like benadryl, (diphenhydramine) claritin, allegra, or zyrtec can help, as well as avoiding any triggers. Sometimes it can be associated w celiac disease and/or wheat allergy. Nickel can be another trigger. If it worsens please see your doctor. ...Read more

If a doppler scan of arms and legs comes back negative for blood clotting, does that mean there are no blood clots in my body anywhere else?

If a doppler scan of arms and legs comes back negative for blood clotting, does that mean there are no blood clots in my body anywhere else?

No, but...: It's extremely unlikely. Unless you have other symptoms. It is possible the small clot travelled to your lungs and would present as a pulmonary embolus. Ct is the best test for that. However, a blood test called d-dimer would be positive. If your duplexes and d-dimer are negative, it would be extremely unlikely to have a clot anywhere in a patient your age. ...Read more

Why does my hands arms and legs fall asleep when sitting too long an I'm always cold?

Couple of Things: It is unlikely at your age that you would have neurological or vascular issues causing your symptoms. My first thought would be to check a thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) level, alongside an anemia panel and suggest that you ensure adequate hydration in the meantime. A primary care physician can obtain the above tests and discuss the results and further thoughts with you. ...Read more

Location, location: We are not able to see any lab or pictures you have to upload. That is reserved for the paid concierge site.
