Follow growth curve: Large for gestation infants can have several conditions associated such as obesity, changes in blood sugar and even underdevelopment of their lungs and other organs. Your doctor will follow the baby's growth and will determine if any further testing is needed. If your baby did not have a nicu stay, this is more often associated with a better course and fewer problems. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
How long can a person go without pooping before serious problems arise. What kind of problems can arise from not pooping?
Would be evident: Babies are quite resilient, and minor head trauma is common to most between the 1st and 2nd yr. Other head trauma would produce immediate symptoms, or problems such as seizures, learning problems etc that would be evident within a few years of school entry.Trying to tag such a fall as the cause of a new problem in an adult is a bit of a stretch. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Very unlikely: Babies who sustain falls from short distances most often do not get injuries that are serious long-term. If the baby cries immediately, does not vomit or lose consciousness, those are good signs and any damage at all is unlikely. If ths is not the case or you notice any changes in the baby's behavior, he/she should be seen right away. Otherwise, call your pediatrician to follow up when falls occur. ...Read more
Is it possible for there to be long term problems from having colds or other problems continually? My new job gets me sick a lot (children).
Immunity: If your life has kept you out of close contact with kids for a while & you get back in close contact, a period of frequent colds & occasional other issues is common. After about 6 mo or a year, your immune system should become renewed & you will experience less frequent episodes of symptomatic illness. You may continue to carry the same germs as the kids but will be sick less often. ...Read more

Shudder attacks: If you think your child may be having shudder attacks make sure to take a video of it to show your pediatrician. If it's truly shudder attacks, it will get better as they get older. Can retrognathism surgery have bad after-effects, as in that you'll later on have to rearrange your jaw, or risk getting health problems, and so on?
I'm on the birth control pill, recently become bad with health anxiety, how much of a heart problem risk does the pill cause? Is it drastic? Thankyou
Heart and BP pill: The risk of having a heart attack or stroke is low for most women, but it increases with age. At your age it is low risk, but over 35 the risk is higher. Also, women who smoke have a higher risk of heart disease. I would recommend no smoking if you are on the pill. Also, your blood pressure should be taken before starting the pill. High blood pressure is a risk for heart disease. ...Read more
When on a road trip how much does getting out of the car every hour or two and walking cut down the risks of dvt in people with no other risk factors?
Go with the motion.: Although it is important to be aware of the risk factors involving dvt formation, remember, any one can be affected by a dvt, risk factor or not. Traveling on long trips is a well documented risk factor. Lack of leg movement can cause the blood flow in the legs to slow and increase dvt chances. Long trips, without adequate motion, increases your chances of forming a dvt by 2 to 4 times. ...Read more

Does oxygen desaturation on a long-haul flight (13.5 hours) cause any sort of brain damage to a baby? I've read they go as low as 80% and lower.
Odd comment: Babies with a normal lung structure will maintain normal oxygen levels on a long flight the same way any adult or older child would. There is no drop in the blood oxygen level during a flight. Pressurized air craft are a safe mode of travel for infants. Can a lumbar puncture cause any long term problems? (had it 6 mos ago) Can it affect the brain or introduce new germs etc. to brain/body?
Not enough info: There are risks with lumbar punctures but if you were fine after the procedure and just now something is wrong it seems unlikely that it's due to the LP. Right after LPs it's common to have headaches and yes you can get an infection during the procedure but again being 6 mos out it seems unlikely to have complications develop. If u have had ongoing probs then u need to see your MD ASAP. ...Read more
