Low thyroid: Low thyroid will cause hair loss which should improve with therapy. Some people with autoimmune thyroiditis also have alopecia areata. Of course many other factors can influence hair loss, including birth control pills or iud or many meds. Many women have hair loss with age & hormone changes. Take medication: Thyroxine does not cause hair loss. Lack of thyroxine may cause hair loss. Being thyroid deficient will cause a host of other problems as well. Please follow your doctor's advice and take the medication. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Hair loss 40 y.o. F: Esr is a measure of inflammation and can be elevated by many different things. Tsh 2.4 is within normal limits.
