I read that baby powder with talc, can cause ovarian cancer. I used it about 20 times in my life in the genital area, about 10 years ago. What is my risk?

I doubt it: I have been following this stuff since the 1970's and I think it's junk science. Epidemiology by its nature generates an enormous amount of garbage. The claim does't make sense biologically and I am sorry it is turning out to be a money-maker for tort law. Don't worry and use cornstarch from now on. ...Read more

I used baby powder on genital area after a few waxes I had. So worried about ovarian cancer now. Should I get them removed to reduce the risk?

No: I have followed the talcum powder and cancer claim for forty years and I think it is complete junk. It has made a lot of money for a few people, and caused all kinds of distress and expense to ordinary, decent people. Don't be taken by people whho want to upset and frighten you for their own gain. Relax and get on with your life. ...Read more

Please answer, if one had ovarian cancer, could it metastasis to pelvis and present on pap as cin 1?

Pap and ovarian CA: First just remember a Pap test is only good for finding cervical CA. It doesn't find ovarian or uterine CA. That's why ovarian CA is called the silent CA and uterine CA presents with bleeding. Your abnormal pap is not even at a level where it would be CA yet. Talk to your doctor and ask if the CA cells from the ovarian CA look like the pap. Sounds like u have a new problem. Hang in there! ...Read more

Can ovarian cancer be caused by enviornmental factors like chemicals?

Possibly: We do not know the precise answer to this question. However, it is reasonable to suspect that there may be a relationship in some cases at least. For instance, we know that women who have tubal sterilization for birth control are at decreased risk of developing ovarina cancer. It is thought that this may be due to blocking of environmental chemicals from reaching the ovary through the tube. ...Read more
