Doctor insights on: Does folic acid help women that have pcos
Is it ok to take 5mg folic acid every alternative day for a 29 yr old woman having pcos and trying to conceive?
Folic Acid Dose: I cannot recommend a dose of 5 mg every other day unless your doctor specifically ordered this for you. The FDA limits OTC folic acid tabs to 0.4 mg. Women in child bearing years need more so discuss what's right for you with your doctor. Because high doses of folic acid mask vit B12 deficiency, if you take more than 1 mg of folic acid per day, you should take 1, 000mcg of Vit B12 daily. Talk w/MD. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

PCOS treatment: That's a fair treatment for PCOS. Good luck to you! ...Read more

Oligomenorrhea: Pcos is a hard disease to deal with and you need to be in close contact with a doctor who will monitor your weight, metabolic health, and discuss the regularity of your periods. You need to have regular periods in order to get pregnant naturally and I wouldn't give up on your chances unless you've been trying for a full year, meaning timed, unprotected sex. ...Read more

I assume you meant: Legs, not lage. A hb 4, not good. Even 7.5 is still low. She still needs to be on iron replacement and the source of blood loss remedied. She is likely short of breath because of decreased ability to carry oxygen, same with the legs. If still symptomatic you could consider a transfusion, even 1 unit would help. Needs to be at 9 or 10 for symptom relief which is still low, norm around 12-14. ...Read more
