Does Fish Oil Help Increase Collagen And Elastin
Biotin, folic acid, collagen, evening primrose, fish oil all taken together daily, is it ok? I am 26 female. No pregnancy plan. Hypervitaminosis?
Totally fine: Hypervitaminosis is a term that refers to toxic levels of vitamin a, d or e, which you clearly don't have since you are not taking any of those! Biotin and Folic Acid are essential nutrients that are non-toxic and prevent birth defects. Evening primrose ; fish oil provide essential fatty acids ; are very safe. Collagen is not essential but also quite safe. You have no need to worry. ...Read more
Fish oils contain two active omega-3 fatty acids, dha and epa. Most fish oil products contain both dha and epa, but supplements enriched in dha or epa are available. Omega-3 fatty acids have been shown to significantly reduce sudden cardiac death. Some studies also indicate the potential for benefits in dementia and risk of heart attack. The omega-3 content of cold water ...Read more
Yes but caution re:A: I'm confused, as the info above says you're a 20 yo male, but most males don't take prenatal vits, if you're male I wouldn't take a prenatal, as they often have iron, which 20 yo guys shouldn't take. If you're female, why did you say you're male? If you might become pregnant take no more than 10, 000 iu total of vit a/day-see http://www. Care2.Com/greenliving/is-vitamin-a-safe-for-pregnant-women. Is omega 3 fish oil good for skin wrinkles and loss of collagen & safe to take daily & is CoQ10 good for ageing skin. Can they be taken together?
I have a HDL of 32, LDL of 88 and triglycerides count is 289. My non-hdl count is 146. I am using fish oil gels daily. How to increase hdl?
Not really: Your liver increases your production of cholesterol, not necessarily the food you eat. Cholesterol is the building block of all hormones in the body and is necessary for life. However high cholesterol or very low cholesterol is not ideal. High cholesterol must be balanced with good cholesterol (HDL) so that it can be removed from the body. Fish oil has good omegas 3's for our body. ...Read more
How much fish oil is safe to take without doctor supervision? Can fish oil increase your risk of aneurysm? If so, do benefits outweigh risks?
Yes, tree nuts raise hdl, as does fish oil, olive oil, red wine & exercise- see http://www. Ehow. Com/how_5205513_increase-good-cholesterol-hdl. Html
while raising HDL is beneficial & does reduce risk of heart disease, the most important strategy to decrease risk is to reduce inflammation- see http://www. Cbn. Com/cbnnews/healthscience/2012/october/cholesterol-myth-what-really-causes-heart-disease/. ...Read more
Started taking fish oil and vitamin d and noticed a slight increase of ALT levels up 30 from 80 to 124?
This is serious: Both these numbers are very concerning. You've had a liver biopsy and you have a right to know what's going on. You're 23 years old. Are you drinking too much? Have you been checked for hepatitis B and C, hemochromatosis, Wilson's, autoimmune hepatitis and NASH. Are you allergic to the medications you're taking for your anxiety? These questions need to be settled -- or you may pay with your life. ...Read more
Dr. Moran--thanks for the answer. My triglycerides are very low and LDL is 33 on lipitor (atorvastatin). I was hoping fish oil will raise hdl (mine is 30). Can it?
Is the use of fish oil capsule good in PCOS? But I read that fish oil also increases blood glucose level
What are the top 3 ways to raise HDL? I fixed TC/TG/LDL with High fiber, Fish Oil, Guggulsterones, Pantethine, Niaspan, (niacin) but HDL went from 29 to 30
I'll give you 7: Non-medicinal (other than the natural Omega3 Fish oils) ways to improve the HDL are: Exercise/STOP Smoking/Decrease sugars in your diet/Increase Fiber in your diet/Increase the Omega 3 Fish oils/Small amounts of dark chocolate/red wine in moderation...can all be beneficial for the HDL. Ok to take fish oil, protein powder, creatine and lift weights which will increase testosterone if I am suffering from hair loss and want to prevent it?
OK but won't help.: All of those things (or at least the weight lifting) will be good for your general health. Unfortunately, increasing testosterone won't affect hair loss, which has to do with the hormone receptors in the hair shafts themselves. The only proven hair loss preventatives are rogaine, (minoxidil) which is otc, and finasteride, a prescription med that your doctor can prescribe if you have no contraindications. ...Read more
Yes & No, changes LDL:
Recent studies suggest fish oil capsules may not reduce risk of heart disease, but getting fish oil from eating fish does seem to prevent heart disease! See http://www. Cnn. Com/2012/09/11/health/health-fish-oil
re: ldl, fish oil may raise it a bit but also changes LDL from small to large particles, making the LDL less dangerous.

Just saw a study that showed that fish oil supplements increased risk of prostate cancer. Are the benefits worth the risk? Still recomended?
Preliminary: The data in this study were very preliminary. Whether or not the patients were taking fish oil supplements was not even measured in the study (only blood levels of omega-3), so there may be multiple other factors that contribute to this increased risk. For example maybe patients who tend to develop prostate cancer also tend to have higher levels for other reasons. More studies are needed. ...Read more
