Does Fetal Malformations And Genetic Disorders Cause Stillbirth
Down syndrome.: For many reasons (longevity, inability to care for self, chronic health problems, neurodevelopmental delay and dementia) this is a particularly hard genetic condition for families to bear; don't misunderstand me, i personally think some of the affected individuals are charismatic and a blessing to their families, but typically they are a heavy burden (>90% 5-year divorce rate reported). ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
A genetic disease is a disease that is caused by a defect in the genetic (dna) material in a gene(s). It can be inherited and mosy pose a risk to other family members and/or to future children. For many genetic diseases there are molecular tests that allow detection of a change(s) called mutations, we can also detect deltions or other changes to the gene's dna that can also result ...Read more
Are there any genetic disorders that cause growth spurts in adults? My brother grew one inch around his mid20s or so. I gained 3 inches in my late30s.
Unknown phenomenon: please document as best as possible these growth spurts, because as far as I know, they have never been reported in the medical literature. Any University Hospital with a bone dysplasia clinic would be intereted. Currently, the only way to increase height in a person with significant short stature is to break their long bones, and attach a metal rig which can be increased about 1 mm/day. ...Read more

Definition Dependant: Most inborn errors of metabolism cause mental retardation because toxic substances build up in the body and brain. If we consider that most diseases are caused by genetics then most genetic disorders do not cause mental retardation. I am not a geneticist but i think the answer to this question depends on how we define genetic conditions. Hope this helps - here are some links: http://bit.Ly/rkklwh. ...Read more
Lots!: Generally, if you have fewer or more genes or chromosomes than you're supposed to have, intelligence may well be affected. Molecular Methods: Identifying alleles associated with disease can be done by numerous different methods depending on the type of genetic alteration. Gene sequencing is often the gold standard. However, for disease caused by deletion or insertion of a segment of DNA, a technique called Fluoresense In Situ Hybridization is used. For detection of single base pair changes numerous different techniques can be used ...Read more
