Does Estrogen Dominance Cause Acne
Estrogen and Acne: Acne happens when androgens such as testosterone gets turned into its more potent form called Dht through the action of the enzyme called 5 Alpha retuctase. Dht in the skin then cause sebum production to increase, leading to more oily skin, which clogs pores and results in acne. When your Progesterone levels are normal, this will help to keep your Dht levels down. ...Read more
Why does low progesterone or estrogen dominance cause acne in women with pcos? How does that happen?
Hyperandrogenism: Acne in women with pcos is caused by hyperandrogenism (too much male-type hormones) including testosterone, produced by the ovaries. Insulin resistance promotes hyperandrogenism. Treatments include Insulin sensitizers like metformin if you're trying to conceive, or birth control pills and anti-androgens like spironolactone if not ttc. 'low progesterone' occurs in women with pcos who don't ovulate. ...Read more
Estrogen/Uterine CA: Absolutely not. "high" estrogen levels are only one factor in the risk profile for uterine cancer, which also includes obesity, family history, and oral contraceptive history. Even if you possess one or more risk factors, that does not mean that a tumor is certain. Close monitoring and counselling by your gyn is the best course of action. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Minor mystery: And a very good question. The strongest epidemiologic link between acne and diet implicates milk / dairy rather than chocolate. This predates the flap about injecting cattle with hormones. Actually, nobody knows why. If it was really the Estrogens in milk / dairy, men who drink a lot of milk would get gynecomastia and everybody would know this, and that doesn't happen. Hope you're successfully rxd. ...Read more
No, a risk factor: Unopposed estrogen is a risk factor for uterine cancer but it does not always cause it. Unopposed estrogen means it is given without any Progesterone another female hormone. Somewhere between 4-8 out of every 1000 women receiving unopposed estrogen per year will get uterine cancer. Being obese probably makes the risk closer to 8/1000, whereas in thin women the risk is about 4/1000. ...Read more
Does spironolactone actually increase basal levels of estrogen or does it just block androgens, decreasing testosterone?

Does natural progesterone cream really help in correcting an imbalance between estrogen and progesterone?
Usually : If you do not ovulate or if you make a lot of estrogen, Progesterone can help calm your body from the overstimulation of the estrogen. However, during a normal menstrual cycle the Progesterone levels can vary greatly so you will have to find the right dose and the right timing of the progesterone. Also, get a Progesterone that does not have the preservatives called parabens which may cause cancer. ...Read more

Why hyperthyroid can cause gynecomastia? What's the connection thyroid hormone and estrogen, testosterone?
Complex interaction: Gynecomastia can occur in hyperthyroidism due to an induced increase in peripheral aromatase activity leading to an increase in circulating estrogen levels, and thus decreased testosterone levels. Most of the estrogen in men is made from the peripheral conversion of testosterone and other androgens to estrogens. Other mechanisms are probably at play as well. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
