Does Epiduo Heal Acne Scars
Can't do it yourself: I'm sorry if someone has misled you. You're not going to heal your own acne scars. I'm sorry you ended up with these in the first place. Your choices are to keep them -- like several Hollywood male leads who like the "tough guy" look -- or get a plastic surgeon or dermatologist to use a filler, microsurgery, or laser. Read more
Not likely: It is possible to get great results, but normally it is about 30-50% improved. One of the most important things is not to promise better results than we can obtain. It is called "realistic expectations". It is difficult to achieve perfection since the skin is already damaged and will not return to 100% normal. Read more
I'm getting 50% gylcolic peels to heal my acne scars. How many peels should it take to clear my skin?
Do acne scars from picking skin eventually heal over time if stops picking? How long approx if so? Thanks Dr!
Acne scars: Old acne scars which have been inflamed will eventually return to normal skin tone providing they don't get aggravated by picking or irritating facial products (they will generally turn red, then brown prior to fading to normal color and this can take weeks). Minimize new pimples from developing by using hypoallergenic washes and moisturizers, benzoyl peroxide, and staying well hydrated. Read more
Why do some doctors say acne scars will take months to heal? I have had acne scars and they heal within a month but not many months.
I'm getting 50% Gylcolic peels to clear acne scars. Assuming they can all heal, how many peels would I need to replace all skin layers?
Specialist consult: I'm sorry your acne wasn't treated properly and you ended up with these lesions. Trying to bleach hyperpigmented lesions will probably just make things worse. They fade eventually. Scars can be treated by a dermatologist or plastic surgeon with a laser, microsurgery or a filler. Read more
No: If you've had acne scarring and still have acne, you need to get with your personal physician. Use topical benzoyl peroxide until then. Nothing will touch acne scars short of a physician's intervention with a laser, microsurgery or filler. I'm sorry your acne was neglected, but several hollywood stars have kept their scars for the "tough guy" look. Read more

The treatment program and costs vary with the extent of the scarring and number of treatments required. See a dermatologist or plastic surgeon to check out your options. I've been getting chemical peels for acne scars. I got 2 light enzym peels and 1 extra strength enzyme peel. After how many peels will the scars heal?
Scars aren't removed: By peels. You can do them until the cows come home, and not see much difference other than exfoliation. So that's an expensive alternative that has been marketed to you. Cosmetic lasers that rebuild collagen provide longer lasting results, as scarring is occurring from the damaged collagen fibers that have created crater-like effects from contraction. Treat the cause, not the hype. Read more

I have acne scars and I don't get a lot of acne on my face any more. I wanted to know if demapen is a safe treatment? And how long does it take to heal
Acne scars: Dermapen is a microneedling technology with a depth of penetration down to 2.5 mm designed for deep skin collagen stimulation. It is a safe for acne scar treatment. Make certain you have treatment done at a cosmetic physician's office and not just a salon as the deep needling if not performed properly can cause irregular scarring. Read more

Can bio oil heal depressed acne scars? Its only very slightly depressed and how do I use it? Does it clog pores?
Myth but use if help: Many of my patients swear by the benefits of tea tree or bio-oil and so I generally don't dissuade them but there is very little science to support its use. It is probably the massage, (which we know helps scars) that is used to apply the oil, which is actually providing the improvements observed. Massage with any clean oil 3-4 times a day. Silicon gel trips are morel likely to improve the scar. Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
