Does Echocardiogram Show Blockage
Rarely: One can sometimes on a technically good study see portions of the coronary arteries. The oringin of the left main coronary artery for instance is not uncommonly seen. There are at the present time much better tests to visualize ther coronary arteries. One can see the results of the clogged artery, (a non-moving or poorly moving part of the heart muscle related to a blockage.). ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Xray of bowels: X-rays show the air inside the bowels. If contrast is given, it will show the fluid. Your doctor looks for gas bubbles in the intestine with swelling of a piece of bowel. X-ray may not show blockage if there is no air getting into the bowel. Contrast will fill up the bowel, but not get through the area of the blockage. Scar tissue after previous abdominal surgery is a common cause of blockage. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Cancer/ inflammation: Both cancer and noncancerous inflammatory conditions like diverticulitis can cause obstruction of the colon and symptoms associated with that obstruction. Not usually: Plain x-ray is not a usual modality to evaluate blood vessels. If by "widening" you mean dilatation or aneurysm, ultrasound is the most common diagnostic tool to start with. However, depending on location of the vessel ct or MRI may be reasonable starting points. Ct does use xray. Angiography is a diagnostic tool I use when treating blood vessel disease and is very good at evaluating as well. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Will a cardiac mri/mra show congested heart failure, blocked arteries, etc? What all will it show?
May be: Echocardiograms are very good at seeing the function of the heart muscle. If coronary artery disease has damaged the heart, the weekend part of the heart will be visible on an echocardiogram. However, significant blockage can occur without damage. A resting echocardiogram will not be able to see this. A stress echocardiogram, however, may be effective in detecting this type of disease. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Yes: Typically, there in patients with myocarditis, there are abnormalities on both ECG and echocardiogram. In fact, if both the ECG and the echocardiogram were normal, the likelihood of myocarditis would be very low. Typical ECG findings are st and t wave changes, and perhaps low amplitude qrs complexes. Echocardiographic findings are decrease ventricular function and perhaps pericardial effusion. ...Read more
It depends what: kind of chest CT. Cardiac CT is designed specifically to look at that. If you are talking about a standard chest CT, visualization of atheroscerotic calcifications in the coronary arteries are an indicator of coronary artery disease, which can prompt further diagnostic work up, but in and of itself does not provide an assessment of the degree of stenosis. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
It might: Typically an enlarged aorta is due to an anuerysm. The anueysm may or may not contain cholesterol plaque. Aortic aneurysms are repaired once they reach a certain size due to the risk of rupture. People with aortic anuerysms should follow up routinely with a vascular specialist for ongoing management of the condition (cardiologist or vascular surgeon). ...Read more
It indirectly can: An echocardiogram can show the heart valves, heart chamber size, and contraction of the left and right ventricles that pump blood out of the heart. If a particular wall of the left ventricle does not contract normally, it is likely an indication of coronary artery disease of a significant severity. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
