Can you overdose on vitamin b? I saw a post that said too much B6 can cause toxicity but I thought vitamin b was water soluble

Can you overdose on vitamin b? I saw a post that said too much B6 can cause toxicity but I thought vitamin b was water soluble

Taking lots 4 months: I think of overdose as a single high dose causing harm & taking a large single dose of b6 won't cause harm. However, taking high doses of b6 daily for months (usually at least 1000 mg but rarely as low as 200 mg) can cause toxicity symptoms, most commonly peripheral neuropathy (tingling & numbness), also headaches, fatigue & irritability, which usually dissipate upon stopping b6. See comment:. ...Read more

Having sx's on B6 toxicity (neuropathy, tingling, shocking feeling) not taking any b vitamins. Level is 134, no other cause for sx's found, what is this?

Not B-6 toxicity: These sound like symptoms of magnesium deficiency which is often found in conjunction with cadmium toxicity coming from stresses of many kinds. Check vit d3 and homocysteine levels. You could have a need for methyl folate, (folic acid) methyl cobalamine and the whole b complex. Re-evaluate life style to promote overall health with sleep, diet, exercise and stress management. ...Read more

56 year-old woman notices radicular pain after taking vitamin B6 supplement for three years.....?

B6 toxicity is well recognized: There are a few questions that need to be asked in this case. Exactly how much B6 was the patient taking? According to recommended standards 200mg daily is the limit. Toxicity is thought to occur at levels of 1000mg. Daily and above though much lower have been reported on rare occasions (100-300mg). Secondly, what exactly was the quality of her pain? Described symptoms of neural toxicity involves sensory neuropathy described mainly as burning dysesthesias and numbness. The case talks about a RADICULOPATHY. That is typically not the same type of pain as we find in chemical toxicities. Pain in the feet could very well be dysesthesias but the history could be a bit more specific there in order to attach more positive points for B6 sequelae.

What are the symptoms of vitamin B6 toxicity?

I HAVE B6 Toxicity from taking 5 mg of b6 for 2 years. I have been off of it for 8 weeks and am much better but still have pain in the evening. Howlong?

I HAVE B6 Toxicity from taking 5 mg of b6 for 2 years. I have been off of it for 8 weeks and am much better but still have pain in the evening. Howlong?

Look for other cause: While high doses of Vitamin B6 can cause neuropathy, usually this involves taking at least 500 mg/day. There is no evidence of doses below 200 mg causing toxicity, and millions of people have taken doses of 5 mg or more with no reports of toxicity. Thus, it is unlikely B6 caused pain so I would get evaluated for other causes of your pain. See http://tinyurl. Com/pkzbwlz ...Read more

I have B6 toxicity it is over double what it should be I do not take supplements. What can be done to help?

I have B6 toxicity it is over double what it should be I do not take supplements. What can be done to help?

High levels may not:: B6 is known to be toxic when taken in doses of 200 mg/day or more for months. By definition 2.5% of people have high serum levels but high levels aren't necessarily toxic & seldom associated with symptoms unless you've taken high doses. Sometimes high levels may be a sign of metabolic imbalances but treatments to lower B6 levels are generally not necessary (& no clear way to lower it).See comment: ...Read more

If blood levels are above normal for B6 by 15 points does that indicate b6 toxicity? Can it aggravate sciatic nerve?

If blood levels are above normal for B6 by 15 points does that indicate b6 toxicity? Can it aggravate sciatic nerve?

Not typically: Typically just a 15 point raise in B6 level would not indicate toxicity. B vitamins including B6 are often used to treat nerve pain and disorders. Low vitamin B levels can be more of an issue with pain. However, blood levels don't always represent how much of those vitamins are actually are being utilized by the body. ...Read more

Am I at risk for phosphorous toxicity if I eat sunflower butter every day? I love sunflower butter/honey sandwiches for lunch (alternative to peanuts)

Maybe: You would have to have the food tested for it's phosphorus content and most importantly get a blood test to see if your serum phosphorus levels are rising to toxic levels. What is B6 deficient strep, and what problems does it cause.?

Strep: Nutritionally deficient streptococci may be a frequent causes of endocarditis and bacteremia in humans. Growth in standard laboratory media depends upon adding metabolites, including cysteine, thiol compounds, and activated forms of vitamin b6 (pyridoxal and pyridoxamine). The problem is more in growing the bug than in treating it, since in some ways it may be more susceptible to penicillin. ...Read more

What is considered a high level of B6 and what could be the cause other than supplements?

What is considered a high level of B6 and what could be the cause other than supplements?

Kidney function: Vitamin B - 6 (pyridoxal phosphate), like all B vitamins is water soluble and is excreted in the urine from the kidneys. If your kidney function is decreased, this would decrease the excretion of Vitamin B - 6 and threrfore raise the blood level of vitamin B - 6.

Your doctor should evaluate your kidney function and make sure that your blood pressure and any blood sugar problems are well control ...Read more

You are there: Yes, high vitamin b-6 can cause not only a peripheral neuropathy but also spinal cord damage. The maximal daily dose is 400 mg, and, in pts who I treat, typically 100 mg twice daily is a far safer dosage. Stop the b-6 and contact your doctor. ...Read more

Is it possible to have a B6 deficiency but have an elevated B6 via blood test. How does p5p work into this equation? Would this cause a GABA issue?

Is it possible to have a B6 deficiency but have an elevated B6 via blood test. How does p5p work into this equation? Would this cause a GABA issue?

Caveat emptor: The inability to convert b6 / pyridoxine into the active form p5p is a rare inborn error of metabolism; giving p5p produces dramatic improved health. B6 is borderline in some diets, including both the american junk food and many "holistic spiritual" diets, but if a reputable lab found a normal level, I would be unconcerned. "gaba issues" is fringe medicine. Good luck. ...Read more
