Probably: Sounds like gerd which can be intermittent. No one way to make the diagnosis, but if you feel better on a ppi then that usually is enough to make the diagnosis. Diagnosis of gerd can also be made with an endoscopy but not necessary. ...Read more

Possibly: This sounds like reflux of the fluid you drank back into the esophagus. This can probably be managed by avoiding large volumes of fluid just before you lie down. Try to have your tea earlier, an hour or so before bedtime. Then only take small sips around bedtime if you are thirsty. ...Read more

I am in so much pain and it is suspected that I have GERD or an ulcer. Medication wears off and I'm in a lot of pain. What to do?

Try sipping: Small quantities of milk (If you are lactose intolerant include "lactaid" tablets.) Also an oral antacid (for example Maalox, Gelusil etc) may help! You failed to mention what medication you were started on and what is planned for tests to determine exact diagnosis! Over the counter H-2 blockers (eg Pepcid (famotidine), Zantac< may also help!

Hope this is helpful!
