Daughter is 7 and starting to have breast development and needs a training bra already!!!! Is this to early? Does this mean she will start young?
Not necessarily: It depends. Concern about precocious puberty is very valid. Stages of development and when it occurs vary from child to child. There are some genetic factor (e.g. if you developed early, your child might too). Besides secondary sex characteristics, other factors e.g. weight & height growth also need to be considered. If concern, consider seeing a pediatric endocrinologist & speak w/pediatrician ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
No guarantees: Amniocentesis can detect many abnormalities, depending on what you are looking for. Most commonly it will identify the chromosomal makeup of the fetus and measure alpha-fetoprotein (afp). Abnormal chromosomes are found in down syndrome, and high AFP may indicate spina bifida. Even a normal amnio can never guarantee a normal baby as there are conditions that it cannot identify. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
If my baby has a cleft lip/palate is there anyway to tell through ultrasounds? And when did he/she develop it in utero? Early in the start whileformin
Depends on variables: Facial and palatal structures form over the 5th-10th weeks and clefting in either or both structures is evident during this process. Depending on the skill and equipment of the ultrasound tech, the cleft lip and palate may be seen. A cleft lip can occur without a cleft palate as can the opposite. Some minor clefting is hard to detect until delivery. ...Read more
Varies w technique: First off, if you have never attempted, it is not known if you are capable of nursing at all. This may not be a possibility. Assuming you can nurse the potential to interfere as a result of a mastopexy will vary with the extent of the surgery. Whereas a crescent lift may have a very low risk ( <5%). A more traditional lift with resection and implants may have a much higher 15-20% rate. ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers
Will prediabetes prior to pregnancy lead to development of gestational diabetes during pregnancy for sure? If so, is it harder to revert afterwards?
I heard there are ways to predict how tall a baby will ultimately be, very soon after their birth. Is this true? Based on wrist/ankle size etc.?
The approximate rule: Here is a way to guess: add the heights (inches) of father and mother, divide in two, then add 2 inches for boy and subtract 2 inches for girl. For example: if dad = 71in, mom = 65in, then (71+65)/2=68; then 68+2 =70 for the boy and 68-2=66 for the girl. Just remember, this is an approximate. Life circumstances, nutritions, illness, long-term med use etc..Can affect it. Have fun and good luck. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
If a baby is born before 37 wks, is it guaranteed that he or she will have some type of diagnosed disability at some point in life?
No: One of my 30 wk small for dates (14oz at birth) patients graduated at 21 from the honors program at baylor a few years ago. My mother died of stomach cancer at age 34. Is there a genetic test I can take to see if I will get it and likelihood of early death etc?
No routine test: It is possible but it is rare to have hereditary Stomach cancer. So it is unlikely that you have much risk for it. If you want to pursue it further, you should see a Gastroenterologist who can counsel you and may even find a genetic counselor to guide you further. An upper Endoscopy(EGD) can be done easily to look inside your stomach and also do a biopsy for H.Pylori infection which can cause Canc ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
