Does Doxycycline Treat Strep Throat
I think I have strep throat and the only medicine I have right now is Doxycycline Mono 100G, will this help until I can get to a real diagnosis?
One of the poorest: The effectiveness of this drug for strep is one of the poorest on record. Almost like doing nothing at all. You have at least a week from the start of symptoms to initiate treatment before the long term complications of strep can begin to form. Use it to get in & find out if this is really strep & get treated properly.See 1 more doctor answer
Can you take doxycycline and Amoxicillin same day. I have strep throat and I took doxycycline b4 I was diagnosed. Or how long before I can take, morni?
What to do if I have strep throat and am snowed in with monodox (doxycycline monohydrate) (tetracyclin) already here. What does should I take?
Strep: You can take 500mg of tetracycline twice daily for ten days
Prescribed both doxycycline hyclate oral (for staph on piercing site) and penicillin (for strep throat). Safe to take these at the same time?
Yes: No interaction between them. However it is useful to take a probiotic while on the antibiotics to avoid side effects.
I have strep throat and was prescribed a zpack 5 day dose. I also have a uti which a different Dr prescribed vibramycin 100 mg. Can I take both?
No: I would not take both. Speak with your doctor that prescribed the antibiotic for the UTI and tell them you are already on a zpack or vice versa.
Macrobid/Doxycycline: Macrobid is an antibiotic used in treating urinary tract infection. Doxycycline can be used to treat strep infection. Antibiotics of choice for strep throat is penicillin or amoxicillin, for ear infection amoxicillin or augmentin. Important to not self diagnose or use left over antibiotics. Follow up with doctor for definitive evaluation and treatment.
What is causing me to break out in hives? Well I don't have health insurance and I've had strep throat since sunday. For the strep throat I've taken some left over doxycycline since it is an antibiotic. My sore throat is clearing up, but I've broken out I
There: There are two possibilities here: #1.-you likely did not have a strep infection, but a viral pharyngitis (throat infection) and you are feeling better because time has passed, not from the antibiotics, a mere coincidence. With viral pharyngitis you can develop a viral exanthem (rash) towards the end of the infectious process. This is self limiting. #2.- you have strep that is resistant to doxycline and know you have developed scarlet fever (rash) if this is the case you will need a change of medication. I recommend you find a low or no cost clinic in your area and schedule a visit. Lastly, remember it is never wise to self treat with antibiotics. Best of luck.
If verified- treat: The majority of sore throats are viruses, but if you have verified strep you should have it treated with an antibiotic. Symptoms may improve in a day or two without treatment, but complications would still be possible without proper treatment.
Cipro (ciprofloxacin) for strep: It'll likely take care of the infection but it's not recommended as first or even second line use. There are reports of increasing resistance of group a strep to fluoroquinolones (cipro). Penicillin is still the first choice and macrolides for people with penicillin allergy (or cephalosporins depending on local resistance).See 2 more doctor answers
