Can diverticulitis cause headache nausea and belching. I have these a lot. Have diverticulosis, ulcers, hiatal hernia. Gallblader was 33% on hida scan.

Nausea & belching: More likely come from ulcers & hiatal hernia than from diverticulosis. Ejection fraction on hida scan varies according to source: some give 30-35%; others give 35-75%. R u being treated for the ulcers & probable reflux from hiatal hernia? If not, see doc for rx: h2 blockers like zantac (ranitidine) or better, proton pump inhibitors like prilosec/prevacid/protonix; dos may also rx 1 of those + 2 antibiotics. ...Read more

I was on Cipo and flatly for diverticulitis it maded me so sick the Dr stopped it yesterday. I'm still sick nausea. Is this natural?

Cipro/Flagyl: Flagyl often causes GI upset. Cipro (ciprofloxacin) less commonly. The Flagyl side effect can last 3- 4 days. Sip peppermint tea. Don't eat much that requires digestion. Stay with egg whites, soups, white bread, apple sauce. Check with your doctor to be sure you have not developed a complication, like abscess or rupture. ...Read more

Light pain 3-inches right of belly button, nausea shoulder blade pain. Hiatel hernia. Could it be gallbladder? Prior cdiff, diverticulitis a year ago.

Light pain 3-inches right of belly button, nausea shoulder blade pain. Hiatel hernia. Could it be gallbladder? Prior cdiff, diverticulitis a year ago.

Could be gallbladder: Many things are in the upper abdomen: stomach, pancreas, liver, small intestine, gall bladder, large intestine, abdominal muscles, etc... An exam by a primary care doctor can help figure things out. Pain in the right upper abdomen, plus symptoms that occur after eating, can be due to gallstones or other gall bladder disease. A doctor can evaluate for gall bladder problems. ...Read more

How do I know if im having a diverticulitis flare up or ibs? I've been diagnosed with both. I have nausea, bloating, bloody stools, lightheadedness?

How do I know if im having a diverticulitis flare up or ibs? I've been diagnosed with both. I have nausea, bloating, bloody stools, lightheadedness?

May be neither: How were you diagnosed with either. Even though you are young I assume you had a colonoscopy to rule out colitis and a CT scan to confirm diagnosis of diverticulitis which is uncommon in 30's. I say this because bloody stools are not usually seen with either of these. ...Read more

Friend has diverticulitis. Dark bruise appeared at her hip area, rt side. Sign of internal rupture? No blood in vomit. She has nausea & dizziness.

Friend has diverticulitis. Dark bruise appeared at her hip area, rt side. Sign of internal rupture? No blood in vomit. She has nausea & dizziness.

No sign of rupture: If diverticulitis ruptures, it is typically associated with either local or diffuse abdominal pain, worse when you press on the abdomen, but not bruising. Sounds like a trip to her doctors treating the diverticulitis is in order or a more complete evaluation. If not being treated, head to primary care or urgent care. Hope this helps! ...Read more

Middle stomach pain, churning stomach, nausea, shoulder blades hurt. Prior cdiff, prior diverticulitis, could it be these again or gallbladder.

Middle stomach pain, churning stomach, nausea, shoulder blades hurt. Prior cdiff, prior diverticulitis, could it be these again or gallbladder.

More info: The first thing one thinks of is gallbladder but more info is needed. When do you get pain? What type? How long does it last? Anything make it better? Anything make it worse? Does food affect the pain? Have you had any surgery? How long has it been there? Have you tried any medications? Did they work? Did you injure yourself? Has anyone done any studies? Diverticulitis, gastritis also possible. ...Read more

Dr gave me Alinia and Cipro (ciprofloxacin) for diverticulitis. Up all night insomnia, nausea, jittery, leg pain. Had Ciff 2 months ago. Is Augmentin worse than Alinia?

Dr gave me Alinia and Cipro (ciprofloxacin) for diverticulitis. Up all night insomnia, nausea, jittery, leg pain. Had Ciff 2 months ago. Is Augmentin worse than Alinia?

Not sure if you mean: Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) worse than Alinia in side effects? Both give you gastrointestinal upset symptoms, but jitteriness and insomnia should not be attributed to antibiotics. Unless the GI upset symptoms (nausea/ diarrhea/ etc.) are keeping you up. Make sure you drink LOTS of water/fluids to replace the volume lost since dehydration is the #1 cause of side effects while on antibiotics. ...Read more

Taking bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) and flagyl for diverticulitis. Horrible nasuea, headache and chest discomfort, body aches and just feel sick. Should I stop the med?

Taking bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) and flagyl for diverticulitis. Horrible nasuea, headache and chest discomfort, body aches and just feel sick. Should I stop the med?

No: While nausea is a common adverse effect of almost any medication, the other symptoms you describe are not likely to be caused by these antibiotics. They could be caused by worsening infection, but an exam is necessary to make that determination. Seeing a doctor (preferably the prescribing doc) without delay is important in this situation. ...Read more

Is it normal for 7 months later after surgery of diverticulitis to still be queasy and upset stomach? No fever or vomiting.

Is it normal for 7 months later after surgery of diverticulitis to still be queasy and upset stomach? No fever or vomiting.

No: Typically we would expect your intestinal function to be back to normal within 6-8 weeks of surgery for diverticulitis. Prolonged upset suggests that the bacteria mix that normally lives in your intestine has been altered by surgery and the antibiotics given around the operation. Probiotics may help. Some people can also become lactose intolerant for a while after surgery. ...Read more

Have slight nausea hurt in left stomach. I feel full...after only 3-4 bites of food. Could it be diverticulosis. On colace. I had BM. Stopped Carafate (sucralfate)?

Have slight nausea hurt in left stomach. I feel full...after only 3-4 bites of food. Could it be diverticulosis. On colace. I had BM. Stopped Carafate (sucralfate)?

Abdominal pain: Pain in the left upper abdomen associated with nausea and a feeling of getting full quickly (which we term early satiety) is probably not due to diverticulosis. It more likely would be due to a problem in the upper digestive tract such as the stomach or esophagus. Initially I would try OTC ranitidine or omeprazole for 1 to 2 weeks. If no relief, see your doctor. Good luck. ...Read more

Have slight nausea hurt in left stomach. I feel full...can't eat much. Could it be diverticulosis. On colace. I had BM. Stopped Carafate (sucralfate) for heartburn?

Have slight nausea hurt in left stomach. I feel full...can't eat much. Could it be diverticulosis. On colace. I had BM. Stopped Carafate (sucralfate) for heartburn?

Heartburn/dyspepsia: If you mean "hurt in left stomach" is in the left UPPER abdomen/near the stomach, I would be more inclined to think it is the partially treated heartburn. Diverticulosis, just having benign out pouches in the large intestine, doesn't cause symptoms; if they become inflamed, diverticulitis results causing symptoms in the lower abdomen. Keep working with your doc on heartburn therapy. Good wishes:) ...Read more
