Does Diverticulitis Cause Fatigue
Diagnosed with diverticulitis in May last year, I am suffering from fatigue. I am finding it difficult to do the daily Mondale. Could it be something?
Chronic diverticular: Infection can cause decreased energy and stamina in that your body is using all its reserves to control the infection. Many folks after surgery for chronic recurrent diverticulitis say with in a day or two of surgery that they already notice their energy level is better than it has been in years. ...Read more
Three Options: A diverticular abscess is a collection of pus resulting from an acute perforation of the colon after a 'tic ruptures. If small, (IV) antibiotics alone may suffice. If it is bigger than an inch-or-two, drainage (plus abx) is required. Ideally, drainage is done by an interventional radiologist via ct-guidance; however, if the abscess cannot be accessed in this manner, surgical drainage is necessary. ...Read more

Is it possible for diverticulitis to cause pain on the right side if I've already had a partial colectomy?
Is there a way to reverse diverticulitis? Diet? Lifestyle? What causes it? How to prevent worsening? How to prevent future Colitis?
No.: Diverticuli are small, typically pea-sized pockets that are very common in western societies, likely related to our high red meat, low fiber diets. The presence of these pockets is called diverticulosis and is very, very common, and may cause bleeding. Diverticulitis is inflammation of the colon brought about by rupture of one of these pockets; it generally does not cause bleeding. ...Read more
Probably not: It was once thought that such things could lodge in existing colonic diverticuli or block their openings, resulting in inflammation and infection. There is no real evidence of it. Some doctors still recommend avoiding such foods, but it probably makes no difference. (Personal story: I had divertiulitis 35 yr ago, another episode 2 yr ago, no others -- and I eat these things in large amounts.) ...Read more

No: There are no known specific causes of diverticulitis. Diet does not seem to play a role. A high fiber diet is recommended though not proven beneficial. The commonly heard advice to avoid small undigestible foods (such as nuts and seeds) because they may theoretically become lodged in a diverticulum is completely unproven and is probably little more than an old wives' tale. ...Read more

Question my husband drinks 4 24oz everyday and he was dignose with Diverticulitis a year ago would that have caused it even though he eats well?
No direct connection: There is no direct connection between alcohol consumption and diverticulitis. But a heavy drinker is probably not on a well balanced diet that includes lots of fiber (fruit and vegetables and nuts) which may prevent diverticulitis. Drinking 96 ounces of beer daily is very unhealthy and may lead to liver disease if not already present. SEE http://bit. Ly/1JtlW00 http://bit. Ly/1OiIRcI ...Read more
Rarely: If there is enough inflammation or infection from diverticulitis, then rarely the small intestine can become attached to the colon and secondarily become inflamed or kinked in the reaction. I have seen this occur on rare occaision. So typically a small bowel obstruction would not occur in diverticulitis. ...Read more
