I have Af I take verapamil and aspirin therapy. At times my heart rate drops into the 30's for a few seconds then back to the 60's is that normal?

Several points.: Without an exam, I can only give general information and cannot diagnose, treat/prescribe/etc.
and, asymptomatic rate changes are not an indication for a pacer nor even necessarily changing therapy.
AF requires rate control and stroke prevention. Aspirin alone is not enough and coumadin (warfarin) or the newer anti-stroke medicines are generally recommended. ...Read more

My average heart rate even at rest is as high as 90 to 100 bpm, what is the best way to reduce it to about 70?

My average heart rate even at rest is as high as 90 to 100 bpm, what is the best way to reduce it to about 70?

Why?: Your heart is regulated by a system of fine neurohumoral mechanisms - why are you trying to defeat them? If your resting hr is 90-100, there's a reason for it. That said, generally the better shape you're in, the slower your resting hr so working out and being keeping body mass index 18-25 will usually do the trick. Fever, anemia, anxiety, stress, exercise, xs thyroid etc. Increases it. ...Read more

Is it a reasonable goal to reduce my moderate activity heart rate by 13bpm in 3 months? Current: 138bpm after walking about 4mph for 1 mile. Goal: 125

Is it a reasonable goal to reduce my moderate activity heart rate by 13bpm in 3 months? Current: 138bpm after walking about 4mph for 1 mile. Goal: 125

Not relevant: It generally requires more strenuous exercise to reduce the resting heart rate. Reducing heart rate is not a relevant goal for exercise. Do keep up the exercise.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, low fat milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form.
Practice safe sex. ...Read more

Can you tell me how do beta blockers reduce the heart rate?

Can you tell me how do beta blockers reduce the heart rate?

Modifying electrical: The heart rate is set by natural pacemaker cells which rely on electricity to set the tempo. When the pacemaker cells are at rest, there is a natural leak of electricity called (believe it or not) the funny current. The slower this funny current, the longer between heart beats. Stimulation of the beta-adrenergic receptors speeds up the funny current. Beta blockers block this, thereby lowering hr. ...Read more
