Does Depo Provera Cause Ovarian Cysts
Discuss with doc: It is normal for a small cyst to develop on the ovaries from time to time. Ovarian cysts are quite common in women during their reproductive years and may be a single cyst or many cysts. Most cysts are benign and only require monitoring. Most are cysts which develops from tissue that changes in the normal process of ovulation. They usually disappear within 6-8 weeks.
A cyst is a structure or mass that consists of a cellular lined sac. It is typically filled with fluid but may be filled with solid material. It can be congenital, traumatic, or acquired. They may develop nearly anywhere in the body and usually require complete excision for eradication or they are likely to recur. Fluid filled sacs that are not cellular lined ...Read more
I have been on Depo-Provera provera (medroxyprogesterone) for 2 1/2 years and was told dec 12 I have a bunch of small ovarian cysts will the shot affect them in anyway?
Ovarian cysts: In general, no. Birth control shots decreases the chances of you developing physiologic cysts but it does not eliminate either the cysts or the chances of developing cysts.
Not really: The depoprovera shot will not really shrink or get rid of cyst. Most ovarian cysts simply resolve on their own within 6-8 weeks. The shot may help prevent other cysts from forming though by essentially turning the ovaries off during the 3 months that it works.See 1 more doctor answer
Hi. I have been bleeding almost every day for a few months. I have an ovarian cyst and been off Depo-Provera shot since march. Could this be reason for bleed?
Need pelvic exam: Need to see your primary care physician or OB-Gyn for a pelvic exam to check for other reasons like polyps and infections. At this late date, it is doubtful that past depo-provera use is the cause of your continued bleeding for months. Fibroids can cause irregular bleeding symptoms as well as hormonal shifts. Need to see dr.
Worried, been off Depo-Provera 7 months only reddish brown bleeding. Very irregular, large ovarian cyst. Frequency to pee. All this related somehow?
Dx: PCOS. Multiple bilateral ovarian cysts 30yr old nulligravida on Depo-Provera provera (medroxyprogesterone) for 5+yrs. How will cysts impact trying to conceive?
Ovulation: The issue with PCOS is that some women will not ovulate. The ovarian cysts are not the direct cause. They are a symptom of the hormonal imbalance present in PCOS patients.
Hello, I am 22. I was on Depo Provera (medroxyprogesterone) and had no period. Now I am conncerned I have a ovarian cysts/ovarian cancer due to all my symptoms how do I kno?
Exam: If you are concerned about having these diseases go see a GYN and discuss your worries and get examined and tested.
I had a ovarian cyst and I had no period for a montt and a week ago I got Depo-Provera shot now I have headache nausea bad lowerab pain an chest what do I do?
Why depo in 1st plac: Sorry to hear what you car going through. Your symptoms are quite broad and difficult to tell the origins based on the info provided. However, having a history of an ovarian cyst (s) and absent menses for a month may indicate possible pcos as a cause. Lupron (leuprolide) is not generally consider a treatment option for this condition of course but the depot itself can be associated with headaches. Talk with pcp.See 1 more doctor answer
Does the Depo-Provera provera (medroxyprogesterone) shot help with cysts and fibroid tumors? Or can it cause it to be worse?
In general, it helps: The Depo Provera (medroxyprogesterone) shots have a very strong suppressive effect on the production of ovarian cysts, and many f ibroids will shrink under the influence of progestins (like in the Depo-Provera provera). With that said, some women will develop irregular bleeding when they use Depo-Provera provera, and it has other side effects of weight gain, moodiness, etc - in some patients.
Hi. Was just wondering what causes cysts. I have one in my breast and ovary. Had a Depo-Provera shot in jan that I discontinued. Related?
Different things: Cysts in the breast usually form because one of the ducts gets blocked and secretions back up. This is often because the fibrous strands of fibrocystic change cause the blockage. Ovarian cysts can have many causes depending on the kind of cyst. The most common are functional cysts. The egg grows in a cyst or follicle every month. After ovulation a cyst called a corpus luteum forms at that site.
Since I've heard it take a few months to get pregnant after Depo-Provera provera (medroxyprogesterone). Could it be a cyst on my ovary?
Pregnancy: It can take a few months after depo-provera to get pregnant. It is similarly possible to have an ovarian cyst. However, the two are generally unrelated.
Not likely: Normal hormonal variation during the menstrual cycle is the primary contributing factor to fibrocystic breast condition. Fibrocystic breast condition is a cumulative process that mainly affects women over 30. I've not seen anything to warn against Progesterone (provera). Un-apposed estrogen may make it worse. Caffeine may also but jury is out on that one. Good health.
On Depo-Provera have a 27something cyst on left ovary having decent amount of pain at bottom of stomach that moves over to the ovary. What can I do?
It depends: It depends on the type of cyst and whether you mean 2.7 cm (27 mm) or 27 cm. If it is 27 cm surgery is the answer regardless of the type of cyst. Talk to your doctor who ordered the ultrasound about pain management and what if anything needs to be done about the cyst. Sometimes watchful waiting is the best. Hope this helps and you feel better fast.
I have been on the Depo-Provera shot for 5 years and haven't had a period for 3. I randomly get severe sharp pains then tight and odd ovarian pressure. Why?
Evaluation: See your doctor for evaluation. Discuss the possibility of discontinuing depo as prolonged use (>2) can be associated with bone density loss.
I have a cyst on my ovary, it is 3.8 CM × 2.4 CM × 3.2 CM. It contains blood. A doctor prescribed that I use Depo-Provera provera (medroxyprogesterone). Would that shrink the cyst?
No: Cysts go away on their own over time usually 4-8 weeks. Deprovera is not involved in cyst resolution.
On Depo-Provera provera (medroxyprogesterone) and norethin ACE for a cyst -- why won't my period stop?
Bleeding on pill?: If you are bleeding while on depo-provera, it may be due to a thin lining of your uterus. Consider asking your gyn for a pelvic sonogram and check this. Maybe you need a little extra estrogen to make your lining thicken to stop the bleeding. Usually Estradiol 2 mg for only 10 days. It is easy and safe.
I recently received the Depo-Provera shot after having a cyst found on my ovaries. I did have unprotected sex a day after the shot. I missed my period the la?
Depo shot: If you received the shot (150mcg) at the right time in your cycel - ie just as your period was starting - it should have protected you. That is the nice thing with the shot - its protective once its dosed. However, if you got the shot at any other time it might not work until your next cycle. The best thing to do is check a pregnancy test.
