Does Coffee Cause Dryness Of Throat
Woke up unable to breathe or speak. Felt like trying to talk with severe laryngitis while breathing through a coffee stirrer. Lasted about one minute, but still had a slight flem-like sensation in throat for about a half-hour. Thoughts as to cause?
Need to examine:
It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without taking additional history, physical examination and may be some tests. It would be prudent to see your doctor and discuss if you may be depressed. Counter-intuitive as it may seem, exercise may help. Start with low intensity exercise such as walking and gradually increase the intensity at tolerated.
Wish you good health! - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form.
Practice safe sex, if you have sex. ...Read more
I have lump feeling in right side of throat that comes and goes for last 6 weeks. Flares more with coffee. Right neck hurts at times as well.?
I drank my coffee that was too hot. Swallowed it and burnt my throat. What should I do? My throat feels like it's closing up from swelling!
? ER, Aloe juice, Vit C:
If you feel like you are having difficulty breathing due to the swelling please go to the ER immediately, but it would be uncommon for your throat to swell that much from hot coffee.
I advise getting aloe vera juice and drink it, trying to gargle with it. Also take Vit C 1000 mg every 2 hours. Licorice tea or tablets may also help.
But if there is bad pain and swelling please seek medical care. ...Read more
Burns: When you burn the inside of the mouth, throat and esophagus/stomach with hot liquids, you can drink something cold to stop the progression of the burn. If it has been longer than a day or two, the damage is done and you will start to heal. During the early healing process, you should keep your diet soft to avoid further trauma and give it some time. If swallowing becomes difficult see a GI dr. ...Read more
I have coffee + milk every morning. Lately, I've noticed that if I have two cups, my throat feels a little phlegmy and strange -- could I be lactose?
Maybe: Symptoms of lactose intolerance are generally cramping/bloating of the abdomen, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and gas. They are highest in ethnic groups and lowest in caucasians. A simple test from a doctor can reveal if you are truly lactose intolerant or not. All the best! ...Read more
Ate cookie with coffee started coughing while trying to swallow now I feel a tickle in my throat. Is it possible I inhaled something?
I usually feel as if I have a frog in my throat, it will be dry & attempts to cough it out fails. Happens most mornings & when I drink coffee.
Acid Reflux: Your symptoms are typical of gastroesophageal reflux and may be relieve by an otc acid reducer. If you have occasional heartburn, that is confirmatory. But if you do not have hearburn, it does not rule out acid reflux as it is often "silent." except for the cough, of course. ...Read more
I had some really hot coffee and burnt my throat slightly. Throat was a bit itchy on the day. Now has worsened into a really bad cough. What do I do?
If your throat was irritated by the burn, it may result in pain with swallowing. Unless aspirated it is unlikely to be related to the itchiness and cough. There may be another triggering agent that you are reacting to.
I would advise taking an antihistamine and speaking with your PCP about the possibility of asthma. ...Read more

I scalded my throat with hot coffee 4 days ago, and now I'm coughing up green mucus and am having pain/discomfort. Doing soft diet and aloe juice.
Coughing green mucus:
I understand your discomfort.
Coughing up green mucus is likely not related to scalding of throat with hot coffee.
Post nasal drip due to a sinus infection can cause green mucous.
Blood cells- Neutrophils contain a greenish-colored enzyme, they can turn the mucus the same color.
Smoking, infection, and air pollution can give color to the mucus.
See your Physician for Diagnosis and Treatment. ...Read more
I sipped a coffee of a friend who was diagnosed with strep next day. 72 hrs later I've chills/malaise. Preemptive to test strep? No sore throat yet.
See MD for an exam: 29 year old lady with chills/malaise. Please visit your physician for a full exam. A physician can examine you in person and not only take into account your symptoms, but also examine you physically. MD needs to know your vital signs, medical history. I would test for strep if you were in the office, however, malaise/chills with no fever are not enough to give you antibiotics with no rapid strep. ...Read more

I can't seem to clear my throat. Had MRI & CAT scan, but all was normal. Had this for 2-3 yrs. Healthy 59 yr old male. No allergies, 1 cup coffee/da?
Be diligent: Good news is your MR and CT are normal so far. If you have not already, I would see an ENT Dr. Or a GI, even both and one can do a visual inspection of your throat are by performing an "NPL" (The ENT dr) and the GI can do an "EGD" to examine your esophagus and both would asses for any increased acid or mucus production. Best wishes. ...Read more

I had some agave in my coffee 2 dy ago and ever since then my throat has been killing me. Went to ER, not anaphylaxis. Hurts to swallow. Tips? Howlong
I had coffee this morning with milk and sugar. And now my stomach is hurting, I have diaherra, I feel like there's a lump in the left side of my throat?
Coincidence?: In predisposed individuals, caffeine can trigger intestinal peristalsis and, hence, stomach ache and diarrhea. However, if this is the first time this has happened after your morning cup of coffee, then the two are probably unrelated. Also, unless the coffee was VERY hot, I don't see any connection between the coffee & the lump in your throat. ...Read more
