Does Cod Liver Oil Help Your Thyroid
Can cod liver oil help in chronic lacunar infarcts in left basal gaglia and right thalamus due to TB meningitis with TB meds. Any related side effect?
Sorry, no benefit: Cod liver oil or other fish oils may prevent some vascular dysfunction associated with aging, but once a stroke has occurred, no potential benefit is possible from omega 3 fatty acids. Maybe rehabilitation with speech therapy, physical therapy, and occupational therapy of best benefit. ...Read more

Will Vitamin A & E supplements (or cod liver oil) help keratosis pilaris? The bumps are barely raised but they cause hundreds of tiny dark spots!
Won't help: I have a couple of physician acquaintances who have this. Nothing works, and they simply don't let it bother them. ...Read more
Is cod liver oil good for you? I have heard that you need to find a food ratio of vitamin A to D. What is that ratio?
Cod liver oil: Yes, cod liver oil is a healthy supplement. It is a rich source of vitamin A and vitamin D and omega 3 fatty acids. The ratio of A to D is approximately 10 to 1. Cod liver oil can be beneficial for joint symptoms, vascular disease, heart disease, wound healing and brain function. ...Read more
I take cod liver oil 550mg with vitamin A & D two times a day and I accidentally took 3. Recommended dose is 1 or 2. Is it serious???
No: The average 500 mg capsule of cod liver oil contains approximately 1000 IU of Vitamin A and 225 IU of Vitamin D. The acute toxic dose of Vitamin A for an average adult is >660, 000 units of Vitamin A, which would be 600 capsules of cod liver oil. Acute toxicity of Vitamin D in adults is generally a non-issue as it would take a massive overdose to cause acute symptoms. ...Read more
I am currently taking cod liver oil glucosamine chondroitina and 10pg of vit d. .. I wish to take calcium magnesium too but has 5.0 vit d isit ok?
Cod Liver Oil: Cod liver oil contains more vitamin a and vitamin d than any other food. This is pre-formed vitamin a, though -- not the beta carotene you can get from plants. You probably want no more than 2500 iu of preformed vitamin a/day. It is fat soluble and the excess is stored in your liver. Cod liver oil also contains high amounts of dha and epa -- long chain omega-2 fats. ...Read more
Tablets vs capsules?: Capsules or liquid are certainly a lot more common but sure, the EPA/DHA, Vits A and D can be packaged into a tablet as well. Or do you mean does cod liver oil work, period? It is certainly considered one of the more helpful supplements - supplying things people are actually often short on (see above). anything that dates back 2000+ years is good in my book, too! ...Read more

Perhaps a bit but...:
Krill oil and cod liver oil are both excellent sources of essential Omega 3 fatty acids EPA and DHA. The main thing krill oil has that cod liver oil does not is Astaxanthin, a powerful antioxidant with many proven benefits (see http://products. Mercola. Com/astaxanthin/).
But krill oil costs much more so you could take cod liver oil and supplement with astaxanthin.

There are better way: Alternating diarrhea/constipation can helped first by understanding if something ingested (food or medication) may have had some effect in bringing on part of the cycle. Intolerances to foods for example--may start the process. Often there is the temptation to take a medication to relieve the symptom causing further problems. Cod liver oil can loosen stools. Not necessarily, but: Cod liver has been a medical pancea for almost a century mainly due to its vitamin d content and the ability to cure rickets during times when sun exposure was inadequate (as was happening to europe during the industrial revolution with its accompanied pollution). Due to its high vitamin a content, it can be deleterious to bone if taken in large amount and can appose vitamin d action. ...Read more
I don't think so: Some physicians believe that fish oils are helpful for inflammation and/or blood lipid problems. I have no reason to believe that this will specifically help hepatitis b though it could help the joint disease. The obviously-false internet claim that it "cures hepatitis b" is sucker bait; if it did, some of the nih piranhas would have made their reputations by proving it. ...Read more

Omega 3 is good: Many people can not eat enough fish to get sufficienct omega 3. I am a firm advocate of taking this. I like fish oil better than cod liver oil due to its purification and processing. For heart disease it is 2-4 grams, for joint paint 4-6 grams and for prevention 2grams. For mental health it is dha not epa that you need. ...Read more
