Does Clariton For Allergies Work Good
Allergies occur when your immune system is triggered by envirionmental factors it should ignore--for example, pollen in the air, or dander on a cat or dog--and creates cells to fight against them. An allergic reaction typically causes itching, congestion, or drainage, and ...Read more
Occasionally: It really depends on the nature and severity of your symptoms. Some people feel better after using Claritin for non-allergic issues, largely because antihistamines like Claritin can dry out the nasal passage. This can reduce a runny nose or mild nasal congestion, even if they're non-allergic in nature. Claritin is fairly weak, however, and other non-drowsy options like Allegra can be more helpful. ...Read more
My allergy meds, Claritin (loratadine) 10mg, is supposed to work for 24 hrs. It seems to wear off in less than 12 hrs. Can I take 2 or is there a stronger med?
Partially: I assume you mean hives or itchy rash from sun exposure (solar urticaria or polymorphous light eruption). Antihistamines can help treat the itch associated with the hives. If rash occurs often, taking an antihistamine daily may help. Sunscreen with uva and uvb blockers may help as well. These may not help other sun-sensitive rashes (eg, with lupus). See an allergist or dermatologist for more info. ...Read more
I am 17 k just got off work I have allergies bad can I buy claritin (loratadine) d myself I know u can't get it over the counter anymore?
If I take Claritin (loratadine) but it doesn't work because I have a more intense cold with allergies, can I take something else tonight like Benedryl?
Cold: Claritin (loratadine) will only relieve symptoms due to allergy not a viral cold. There are OTC medications for cold-related symptoms. Since you have not mentioned any of your symptoms from which you seek relief, Its not possible to make specific recommendation. You may ask your pharmacist for assistance in selecting the best medication for you, especially given your existing meds. ...Read more
I am currently taking one tablet a day of generic form of Claritin for my seasonal allergies. Sometimes they work great other times, like today, they don't work at all. My question is: Should I take more than one dose within 24 hours since they do seem to
Don't exceed dosage: Better not to exceed recommended OTC dosage unless seen by an MD, which you might want to do, as you might need another prescription medication to control your symptoms, goodluck ...Read more
Maybe: Loratidine (claritin) can help, but I find it takes 2 - 4 days to begin to give symptom relief. Ceterizine (zyrtec) is also once/day, and usually helps with the first dose. With either, the generic is just as good. I'm not a fan of longterm decongestants (the "d") - they tend to thicken the congestion and dry you out, plus have lots of side effects. If really stuffy, use plain sudafed x 1-2 days. ...Read more
Allergies (I think) really bad. Claritin-D usually works, but not so much now. Worth switching or ride out? Allergy meds aren't cheap. So congested!
Try Zyrtec/Allegra: Try Zyrtec or Allegra (or their generic versions cetirizine or fexofenadine, which are cheaper) or Xyzal (all OTC). Buy the plain versions (without 'D'), and buy pseudoephedrine ('D') separately (behind-the-counter, but no Rx required) and add it to your antihistamine as needed for nasal congestion symptoms. Allergy drug and decongestant separately cost less. Dose instructions are on packages. ...Read more
Sneezing a lot, and when I'm not sneezing. I have that sneezing sensation feeling. Never really had allergies. Claritin, (loratadine) netti pot don't seem to work
I get headaches from allergies. Can I take Claritin (loratadine) and zyrtec at the same time? Claritin (loratadine) didn't work alone when I traveled away from home.
Yes, but: Both Claritin (loratadine) and zyrtec (cetirizine) are new generation antihistamines. While there is no harm to using them together, there is likely no added benefit either. The most effective treatment for nasal allergies is the topical nasal steroid sprays such as qnasl, flonase, veramyst, nasonex, (mometasone) etc if a person doesn't have relief with an antihistamine alone. ...Read more
My allergies are really bothering me I'm on pataday Flonase Claritin (loratadine) and take weekly allergy shots medications don't work I've taken everything else?
Re-evaluation: If you are on all those medicines, regular and not benefiting, so you need to be reevaluated, medicines don't work equally for all patients, doses might need to be modified or prescribed different meds, most important is adherence to treatment plan, good luck ...Read more
Is it ok to take Benadryl (diphenhydramine) to treat my allergies? I've tried zyrtec and Claritin but they don't work.
Most likely: If you're sure you have allergies (presumably you're referring to pollen, etc) and aren't allergic to any of the ingredients in brand name Benadryl or generic diphenhydramine, then sure, it's worth a try. But beware that Diphenhydramine may cause drowsiness & sleepiness as well as dry eyes, dry mouth, urinary retention & constipation. It's used in some otc to help induce sleep. ...Read more
I have very bad seasonal allergies. I have tried everything, Zyrtec, Claritin (loratadine) and Allegra. Nothing works, what can I take?
See an allergist: If none of these OTC meds worked, unlikely that anything else will, you need to be evaluated, good history and physical examination. See your doctor first for initial evaluation, who would refer you or check aaaai. Org or acaai. Org for an allergist in your area, best wishes ...Read more
I have real bad allergies threw the season change. Claritin doesn't work, I do not like Benadryl (diphenhydramine) because it makes me pass out. I need help ASAP.
You're in good company with 1-2 GAZILLION other allergy sufferers who've no good allergy meds to use during HIGH TIDE. My son's even one. I suggest not to play guessing games or allow others to do the same- especially long distance. See an allergist who can do some objective testing & TARGET a treatment (s). Trust me- guessing DON'T work- ask my son!

Might there a good allergy medication similar to xyzal (levocetirizine) or Claritin that doesn't cause weight gain?
Are there any non-sedative antihistamines that work like doxylamine? It is the only drug that helps my allergies. Claritin/lortadine do not help.
Doxylamine has anti-allergy power superior to almost every other antihistamine on the market, with the exception of Diphenhydramine (benadryl), which is also sedating.
Other than claritin/loratadine, there are other non-sedating antihistamines such as allergra (fexofenadine). Zyrtec (cetirizine) (ceterizine) is generally non-sedating although ~5% feel sedated with it. ...Read more

What can I do about my daughter's (4 y/o) constant nose scratching/digging due to allergies? Is it good to give her benadryl/claritin etc everyday?
Preschooler allergy: Your second question first - no it's not good to give Benadryl (diphenhydramine) multiple times a day, which would be needed to control allergies. Claritin is ok with the guidance of pediatrician or allergist. But it sounds like these are not controlling symptoms. There are other medications, both oral, and most appropriately for her condition, nasal steroid mist. Take time to see allergist and work up a plan! ...Read more
Zyrtec, claritin, singular, and allegra don't work on my 7 yr olds allergies at night (nasal drip & cough) only benedryl. Can he take it every night?
Dose?: Zyrtec & Benadryl (diphenhydramine) are very similar. He should get similar relief if he's taking the right dose for his weight. Benadryl (diphenhydramine) will make him more drowsy. You should talk to his doctor about an rx nose spray to control allergies like Flonase or nasonex. ...Read more

I have bad seasonal allergies where I can't breathe through my nose & have a runny nose. Claritin (loratadine) doesn't work. What can I do to treat & prevent it?
Allergies: Nasal congestion and discharge have a variety of causes. It is worthwhile to visit with your local ENT for allergy testing, an exam and trial of nasal sprays like corticosteroid sprays, antihistamine sprays, or other medications that will dry your nose up gently and safely. You can pick up a nasal saline spray in the meantime. Get an air purifier for home, use a hepa vacuum cleaner and avoid rugs. ...Read more

What works better for running nose, allergies? Allegra, Claritin, Zytrec, or Mucinex (guaifenesin)? Debating on which one to get. Fast and 24 hr relief is what am looking for.
Allergy: True allergy should be treated with an antiallergy medication such as loratadine, fexofenadine or cetirizine. They are generally considered equivalent and you should use the one that works best for you. Mucinex (guaifenesin) is an expectorant and should not do much for allergy. ...Read more
I have horrible allergies right now (runny nose, itchy eyes, itchy throat) I took claritin (loratadine) & zyrtec they didn't work what do you suggest I try now?
Allergies: 21 year old lady with allergies unresponsive to OTC antihistamines. If blocking histamine has not worked, try using a nasal corticosteroid spray such as Flonase which you can buy over the counter. You should also try to avoid allergen triggers and visit a specialist in Rheumatology who can use an allergy panel to diagnose your specific allergy and possibly do immunotherapy. Good luck. ...Read more
Blocking histamine: Claritin (loratadine) is one of a group of drugs called antihistamines. These block the natural chemical histamine from binding to its receptors which then trigger your body into having an allergic reaction. So, basically, you have histamine in your system which increases when you are exposed to something you are allergic to. Claritin (loratadine) and others block that histamine from hurting you. ...Read more
