Does Claritin Work Like Benadryl
Similar, yes: They are both antihistamine, but Claritin is classified as nondrowsy. Benadryl (diphenhydramine) seems more effective in controlling allergies symptoms, but has more potential to cause drowsiness etc... So, if your allergy is not too bad, it is reasonable to try claritin. Claritin is once daily comparing with Benadryl (diphenhydramine) 3-4x/day if this fail, consult your doc for additional treatments etc... Good luck. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Not typically: Benedryl helps by blocking histamine, so it is most useful for allergic problems like runny nose. It also is an effective sleep aid. Will over-the-counter antihistamines like Benadryl (diphenhydramine) have any bad interactions with ssris like zoloft?
Partially: I assume you mean hives or itchy rash from sun exposure (solar urticaria or polymorphous light eruption). Antihistamines can help treat the itch associated with the hives. If rash occurs often, taking an antihistamine daily may help. Sunscreen with uva and uvb blockers may help as well. These may not help other sun-sensitive rashes (eg, with lupus). See an allergist or dermatologist for more info. ...Read more

Is it ok to take Benadryl (diphenhydramine) to treat my allergies? I've tried zyrtec and Claritin but they don't work.
Most likely: If you're sure you have allergies (presumably you're referring to pollen, etc) and aren't allergic to any of the ingredients in brand name Benadryl or generic diphenhydramine, then sure, it's worth a try. But beware that Diphenhydramine may cause drowsiness & sleepiness as well as dry eyes, dry mouth, urinary retention & constipation. It's used in some otc to help induce sleep. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
