Probably not but...: Long acting anti-histamines should not be used more than one in 24 hours. Taking more has been associated with heart issues but that is still unlikely to occur. If you have any chest palpitations you should be evaluated. For future reference, these medications can take 4 - 6 hours to work. If you are still not getting relief you can safely add a short acting anti-histamine (Benadryl). ...Read more

Non-sedating: Loratadine is considered a non-sedating antihistamine. It is supposed to treat allergic symptoms without making you drowsy. Other older antihistamines like benadryl (diphenhydramine) are very sedating. ...Read more

Yes, there are other: Allergy sufferer only taking loratadine. Loratadine is probably the least effective oral antihistamine. Try cetirizine or fexofenadine instead. Nasal steroid sprays (Flonase, nasacort) are even more effective than oral antihistamines if used consistently (every day) and with proper technique (point outwards towards ear).
