5-HT receptors: SSRI's like Paroxetine both activate or inhibit multiple serotinergic (5-HT), receptors. At least 4 of them regulate appetite and some anxiety and agitation (jitters). Side effects affect people somewhat differently. Some get a significant desirable antidepressant or other therapeutic goals, and some others experience side effects such as agitation or increased appetite and other undesirable SE's. ...Read more

Is geodon (ziprasidone) known to make people sleep for 12 hours? Also some nights it doesn't make me sleep at all but stay up. Does 40mg have less sedation than 20?
Also consider food: Yes, ziprasidone does cause a very pronounced amount of sleep. Usually a higher does causes more sedation. However, another important variable to watch with respect to the administration of ziprasidone is whether there is food consumption occurring simultaneously. The number usually described is 500 calories and if you are eating this amount of food then it works stronger. Talk with your doctor! ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

How shoud I take Seroquel (quetiapine) XR used for insomnia? It doesn't seem to make me as sleepy as the regular Seroquel (quetiapine)? Take it earlier? Full vs empty stomach?
Dual purpose?: Were you switched to the XR to better control your bipolar symptoms? It does make sense that you wouldn't be quite as sleepy with the XR formulation. You can try to take it earlier and it may help if it's on an empty stomach, but if this even doesn't help maybe talk to your doc about going back to the immediate release Seroquel (quetiapine) and trying something else for bipolar symptoms. ...Read more
I just started Paxil (paroxetine) 12.5mg QD and have been on trazadone 100mg HS. Paxil (paroxetine) seems to make me drowsy. Can I take it at night knowing it is a low dose?
If taking Zoloft (sertraline) can exacerbate my restless leg syndrome- does the time of day I take the meds matter? Currently taking it at bedtime.
Why does Adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine) make me sleepy, spacey and forgetful. 20mg XR once a day for low dopamine depression. Also on Fetzima, 80mg once a day.
?Drug interaction: Adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine) should not cause the side effects you mention. In fact, it's given for ADD/ADHD to improve forgetfulness, distractibility and poor focusing. Contact prescribing doctor without delay to review how you're feeling. Possible serotonin syndrome or too much serotonin in your system can result from drug interaction which might be serious. Good luck. ...Read more
I take trazodone for sleep make me sleep in 10 min but i dont sleep more then 5h do u think elavil (amitriptyline) make me sleep fast as trazodone and sleep longer?
Trazodone doesn't: usually act this way. It typically takes longer to act, and puts people out longer, with a longer hang over the next morning than Elavil (amitriptyline) or other sleep aids. Elavil (amitriptyline) is another antidepressant in this class, but has a bad reputation for side effects, mostly weight gain (not so for Trazodone). Check with your MD for dosages and also for alternative sleepers... ...Read more
How does taking a CNS stimulant for narcolepsy with an snri cause serotonin syndrome? I also take trazadone at night.
Serotonin syndrome: Medications that enhance the release of certain neurotransmitters in the brain like serotonin or norepinephrine increase the risk of serotonin syndrome when used in combination with other drugs or medications that reduce the clearance of those neurotransmitters (like ssri or snri). Seroquel (quetiapine): is an antipsychotic. Zolpidem can cause sleep walking. I would not stop the former as there is nothing more disturbing to the neighbors than to run into a sleepwalking crazy person at 3 AM. Discuss the risks and benefits of both medications with the prescribing physician if you have a problem or ongoing concerns. ...Read more
