Can you treat chlamydia with ciprofloxacin?

Can you treat chlamydia with ciprofloxacin?

Nope: Ciprofloxacin is in the antbiotic class called quinolones. Some quinolones are effective against chlamydia, but not cipro (ciprofloxacin). The treatment of choice for uncomplicated genital chlamydial infection is a single dose of azithromycin; second choice is doxycycline for 7 days. If neither of these can be given, levofloxacin (one of the quinolones that works) for 7 days can be used. ...Read more

Can ciprofloxacin 500mg taken twice a day for 14 days treat chlamydia?

Can ciprofloxacin 500mg taken twice a day for 14 days treat chlamydia?

Probably: Cipro (ciprofloxacin) is not the drug of choice for chlamydia. However, if there is a positive test and if you have taken Cipro (ciprofloxacin) already, you may be cured. The options would be to treat a with another antibiotic anyway or repeat a test for chlamydia. ...Read more

How effective is cipro (ciprofloxacin) for treating chlamydia?

How effective is cipro (ciprofloxacin) for treating chlamydia?

Not very effective.: Quinolones, like ciprofloxacin, are not first line treatments for chlamydia. The effectiveness of Cipro in particular is questionable. Other quinolones are more effective, but require a full week of therapy and are more costly than the preferred agents, Doxycycline or azithromycin. Gonorrhea, usually treated at the same time, is now showing resistance to quinolones, making them less attractive. ...Read more

Will 500 mg of ciprofloxacin treat gonorrhea or chlamydia if 1 tablet is taken twice daily for 3 days (6 total tablets)?

Definitely not!: Cipro (ciprofloxacin)floxacin once was used routinely to treat gonorrhea, but many gonorrhea strains are now resistant to it. And cipro (ciprofloxacin) has never been effective for chlamydia. Cipro (ciprofloxacin) definitely should not be used to treat either of these STDs; no matter how much you take, it is not likely to work. Talk with your doctor about getting proper treatment, usually with ceftriaxone, azithromycin, or both. Good luck! ...Read more

I taken one time cipro (ciprofloxacin) dose for chlamydia which has caused epididymitis. When will it go back to normal? Could it be something else?

I taken one time cipro (ciprofloxacin) dose for chlamydia which has caused epididymitis. When will it go back to normal? Could it be something else?

MisinformtIon?: This doesn't compute. Ciprofloxacin does not treat chlamydia. Maybe you misunderstood what antibiotic was prescribed -- maybe azithromycin? But a single dose is not usually adequate for epididymitis. If under a doctor's care, check back with him or her; or maybe second option from an infectious diseases or STD specialist. If you're treating yourself, find a doctor ASAP for proper care. Good luck. ...Read more

Can Ciprofloxacin 500 MG Treat gonorrhea, chlamydia or any Sti's?

Can Ciprofloxacin 500 MG
Treat gonorrhea, chlamydia or any Sti's?

No: Most STIs don't respond to Cipro (ciprofloxacin)floxacin. Cipro (ciprofloxacin) is a reasonable treatment for gonorrhea; however, treating Chlamydia with Cipro (ciprofloxacin)floxacin isn't effective. It frequently results in many treatment failures and relapses. Doxycycline and Zithromax are the recommended treatment. Cipro (ciprofloxacin) also isn't effective for Syphilis, HIV, HPV, Herpes, and Trichomonas. Best wishes! ...Read more

Slight white discharge, slight pain w/urination (almost 2 weeks) Zithromax & cipro (ciprofloxacin) didn't help. Test neg for chlamydia & gonnorrhea. Thoughts?

More evaluation...: Additional information is needed to answer your question with any meaning since you are experiencing may be 1) a yeast infection, 2)continued UTI if the bacteria is resistant to the antibiotics used, 3) atrophy due to menopause, 4) something other than a UTI . A clinical re-evaluation is needed to determine any additional testing is needed to secure the diagnosis. ...Read more

Hi, Is Ciprofloxacin good vs Gonorrhea and how long should I take it? I was told to take Azithromycin as well for Chlamydia. Is it it ok to combine?

Hi,

Is Ciprofloxacin good vs Gonorrhea and how long should I take it?
I was told to take Azithromycin as well for Chlamydia. Is it it ok to combine?

Yes you need to take: both antibiotics for these diseases. However in recent population studies in the USA and throughout the world, fluoroquinolone-resistant strains of Neisseria gonorrhaea have become widespread, especially in more endemic areas with the highest prevalence. This means that it may be safer for you to seek a single dose Ceftriaxone in the arm or buttock for best available treatment method. ...Read more
