Ct scan showed spot on liver, have colon cancer but ultrasound came back negative does it mean it was wrong?

Ct scan showed spot on liver, have colon cancer but ultrasound came back negative does it mean it was wrong?

Pet or MRI may help: Other imaging modalities may help further clarify if this finding in ct is suspicious for malignancy or more likely benign if the ct and ultrasound have not been more specific. If u have older ct scans to compare and this is indeed new, then further clarification is needed. This all has to be taken into context of the bigger clinical picture including CEA as well as the rest of your body. ...Read more

Sonogram (Definition)

An ultraound, also known as a sonogram, is a painless and relatively inexpensive imaging test that utilizes sound waves instead of ionizing radiation. There are no side effects. Ultrasound can give us two-dimensional, and in some applications three-dimensional, images of structures and organs in virtually any part of the body. In addition to diagnostic uses, such as evaluating abnormalities in the abdomen, pelvis, and breast, ultrasounds are commonly used to guide needle and catheter placement in a variety of surgical ...Read more

Ultrasound found a spot on kidney could it be cancer?

Ultrasound found a spot on kidney could it be cancer?

Yes: Ultrasound is a very good initial screening test for the kidneys. It can help identify kidney stones, obstruction of the kidneys, and tumors. If the ultrasound is questionable or clearly abnormal, a more specific imaging study is required such as a ct scan or MRI of the kidneys for further evaluation. Lesions seen ultrasound do not necessarily indicate cancer but further testing is warranted. ...Read more

I have pain and a elevated liver and my doctor thought I could have gallstones so sent me for an ultrasound. Could they spot anything else i.E bowel cancer?

I have pain and a elevated liver and my doctor thought I could have gallstones so sent me for an ultrasound. Could they spot anything else i.E bowel cancer?

Not really: The ultrasound used to look at the gallbladder is limited to a small area. It can see the liver and sometimes pancreas or kidney.

Seeing the inside of the bowel is not easy on many types of abdominal imaging, but ct probably would be better. Although ct is not very good at looking at the gallbladder. ...Read more

Whenever: Whenever there's doubt about the nature of a lesion in the liver, biopsy is a pretty good way of sorting it out. Liver biopsy is a common procedure and one that can be done with little pain and little risk. It sounds like, in your case, the best modality for doing a biopsy (if it's necessary) would be ultrasound guidance.

That said, it's certainly better if one can make a diagnosis on the basis of imaging studies. It sounds like your doctor is doing his or her best to make that happen. There are a lot of things that can look funny in the liver and yet be benign. The fact that the larger lesion isn't showing up on ct is a good sign, especially if you had what's called a multiphase study. Multiphase studies are very sensitive for subtle abnormalities. If the MRI also shows nothing there, then you probably don't need anything more. ...Read more

Does no growth on ultrasound of complex cyst mean it is definitely not cancer? Specialist said it can't be cancer if it hasn't changed in 2 months.?

Does no growth on ultrasound of complex cyst mean it is definitely not cancer? Specialist said it can't be cancer if it hasn't changed in 2 months.?

Complex cyst: 2 months of stability does not mean much in terms of ruling out malignancy. A year or two of stability favors a benign nature, but does not prove it. If a complex cyst has benign features it can be safely followed with serial ultrasound. If it has supicious features, if it is stable it will still have suspicious features. Not all complex cysts are created equally. ...Read more
