Does Brain Mri Show Old Blood
Think about it, Remy: Whatever would you do brain MRIs for if they didn't show "damage"? The difficulty here lies with your terminology. Brain "damage" is so vague as to be essentially meaningless. MANY disease processes can afflict the brain, & the MRI appearance of "damage" is distinctive depending on the kind of "damage" it is. Neuroradiologists interpret the "damage" all day long. I'm very grateful that they exist. ...Read more
Mri or magnetic resonance imaging is one of the more recently developed imaging modalities available to physicians. It uses powerful magnets to generate images. There is no ionizing radiation which is a major advantage over many other modalities. Mri is the best imaging exam that we have for most soft tissue and joint related problems. There are radiologists ...Read more
Sometimes: Damage to the hippocampus may show up on MRI, especially if it is the reason the MRI is done- so that the hippocampus is examined in detail. Keep in mind though that extensive damage is ordinarily needed to show up on the MRI, and small disruptions may not show up. So there can be a damage and a normal MRI, unfortunately. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Alzheimer MRI: When a person has Alzheimers disease for a long time, there may be accelerated atrophy (shrinking) of the brain, inconsistent with their age, which may show up on MRI. At earlier stages of Alzheimers, the changes that are occurring happen within cells of the brain, and these are too small to be seen in a picture of the brain. The MRI is best for finding stroke, MS or other diseases. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Usually: An MRI is probably the best way to detect a brain tumor in a patient who has symptoms or findings on a medical examination that suggests a brain tumor may exist. Getting an MRI if you are asymptomatic(have no medical issues) is unwarranted and should not be done. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Does a normal brain MRI without contrast show blood vessel abnormalities or do you need another test like an MRA?
Depends on question: Common misconception: MRI (or MRA) doesn't "see everything". ANY imaging test used to help confirm a diagnosis has limitations & doesn't establish Dx from "thin air". MRI can see SOME of the effects of blood vessel abnormalities (like scarring or infarction) & perhaps large abnormalities like aneurysms, but isn't the best test to determine blood flow. So it depends on clinical question being asked ...Read more
No: Imaging studies do not show "everything". For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Practice safe sex. Get HPV vaccine. ...Read more
Only if large enough: MRI with contrast has a resolution limit of about 5 mm, depending on the field strength of the magnet & the spin sequence performed (resolution of time-of-flight MRI or TOF-MRI is even worse). The "gold standard" for an aneurysm is a fluoroscopic angiogram of the brain, which only interventional neurologists or radiologists perform 4 (1) known stroke or (2) genetics. Use HealthTap Prime to discuss ...Read more
Vein Thrombosis : Brain mr angiogram (mra) and mr venography (mrv) are specifically designed to examine your blood vessels. Mrv is often used to examine the intracranial venous system, particularly in the evaluation of dural sinus thrombosis. Mri in conjunction with mrv is both sensitive and specific enough to provide the best noninvasive method of diagnosing cerebral venous thrombosis. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
On a brain MRI whay does "expected signal voids are seen in the intracranial vessels at skull base"? Is that bad? Neuro said MRI was unremarkable.
