Does Biotin Help Beard Growth
Is Biotin safe to take as a teenager for beard growth, have a solid beard going at 17 but is patchy. I'm also on accutane if that matters. Thanks?
Safe but useless:
Taking biotin is safe but it will not make your beard grow any better. Give your beard some time and it is likely to even out.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. ...Read more
Misinformed?: Hair is made up of proteins. Not vitamins. If you do not have hair follicles on your face and cannot grow a beard vitamins will not in any way change your genetics or give you hair follicles where you have none. 5% of men do not have any facial hair follicles and up to 20% of men do not have enough follicles to grow a full beard. Biotin will not make a difference here. ...Read more
No, and. ..: Biotin deficiency is rare, but can occur in persons with genetic mutations, on long-term antibiotics or anti-convulsants, or who eat a lot of raw egg whites. There is no good evidence that this over-the-counter supplement is the magic potion to thicken hair, grow hair, or prevent hair loss. Biotin is safe to take in the usual amounts, but not in the huge doses that some websites are suggesting. ...Read more

What is the age of growing full beard whole over my face I'm only 18, my local doctor said to take 5mg of VB7[Biotin}daily to get what I want. Is it ok?
Realize: That usually a man's facial hair pattern is set by his late teens through early 20s. It's entirely possible that may never grow a full, thick beard. And it would suggest anything is wrong with you, just like not every man is six feet tsll, not every man can grow a thick beard. Biotin isn't likely to hurt you but it's also unlikely to lead to you growing a thicK beard. ...Read more

it is known that biotin deficiency can cause loss of hair. But there is no evidence that high doses of biotin will make hair grow, but it has been recommended by some dermatologists and doctors of alternative medicine
it definitely will not help hair growth in male pattern hair loss/baldness. ...Read more
Hair Loss: If the problem is male pattern hair loss: sadly biotin fails to help many patients, but at least is harmless. I would try topical Minoxidil if you desire something OTC (without prescription). The most likely medicine to help you would be Propecia, (finasteride)which your family doc could prescribe. Check with your doctor if diagnosis is uncertain. ...Read more

I'm 16 teen and I was wondering if it was bad to take biotin just for hair growth. If not then how much should I take.
Biotin is safe but is not likely to do much to help your hair grow unless you are deficient in biotin, which is uncommon. A reasonable dose is 5 mg.
However, you may get better results by taking a quality multivitamin, eating a healthy diet rich in organic fruits and vegetables, avoid junk food and getting adequate sleep.

Biotin shampoo and conditioner vs Keratin shampoo and conditioner. Which would be more effective in growth, repair and/or nourishment?
Hair repair: Keratin shampoo/conditioner coats the hair shaft with Keratin (protein), protecting the hair shaft. Biotin shampoo /conditioner wouldn't be effective, because the hair shaft can't use it. Biotin is a vitamin that helps in the maintaining strong hair and nails, but it must be taken orally to be effective. ...Read more

Dr. Do you believe that different brand names of biotin can effect hair growth? Some swear, one brand works better than other? What is rec daily dose?
No good studies:
There are no good studies apparently. Any that had a positive result were with a very small number of people, for decreasing nail thickness and splitting. Http://www. Med. Nyu. Edu/content? ChunkIID=21571
