Does baneocin work on a staph infection?

It depends: While some strains of staph are susceptible to the two antibiotics found in baneocin, some strains are not susceptible or can develop resistance to the antibiotic ointment after use. I would talk to your doctor if you suspect you have a staph infection to determine what treatment will work best for the strain of staph infection you have some staph infections are very resistant ...Read more

Infection (Definition)

Infections are invasions of some other organism (fungus, bacteria, parasite) or viruses into places where they do not belong. For instance, we have normal gut bacteria that live within us without causing problems; however, when those penetrate the bowel wall and enter the bloodstream, ...Read more

How long does it take for antibiotics to work on a staph infection?

How long does it take for antibiotics to work on a staph infection?

Depends: It depends on the type and the severity of the infection. You need to include more detail in your question. Some staphylococcus aureus infections require 4-6 weeks of intravenous antibiotics. Some simple skin infections can be cured by drainage alone or with a few days of oral antibiotics. ...Read more

What causes rid of a staph infection when med's don't work?

What causes rid of a staph infection when med's don't work?

Depends on the Med: I would ensure the right medications were used. If you have an abscess, it needs to be drained. Many staph are resistant to antibiotics, but there hasn't been a case of staph with proven resistance to everything. If you mean you keep getting recurrent staph infections, there are certain ways to attempt decolonization of your body of staph. Talk to your doc. ...Read more

Just diagnosed with a staph infection? Do I need to stop work as waitress?

Controversial, but..: I would say no, as long as you practice good hand hygiene and consider wearing gloves frequently at work. Staphylococcus is all around us and you won't pass it to others if you wash hands frequently with antibacterial soaps and/or use alcohol based hand disinfectant. ...Read more

Can i pick up a staph infection at home or work?

Can i pick up a staph infection at home or work?

More likely w/ MRSA: Staph is all over. There is usually an intrinsic or extrinsic inciting event. If the innate immune system is healthy it usually wards staph off. But if there is a breach in the skin barrier, a staph infection may ensue, but walled off quickly by the immune system. If its a more virulent form of staff such as community acquired mrsa, the chance of an "staph infection" such as an abscess is higher. ...Read more

Stick with vanco!: Your doctor is correct. What antibiotics "worked for you" in the past is irrelevant. Cure of infections depends only on the bacteria causing the problem and which antibiotics will kill it. Staph cellulitis can be very dangerous and you might have MRSA; vancomycin is normal treatment to start. Maybe possible to change antibiotic later if lab testing shows others to be active against your own staph. ...Read more

Can staph infection be airborne?

Staph Infections: Staph, or staphylococcus, is a family of bacteria that is very virulent, contagious, and even possibly infectious. What makes staph so dangerous is that it is very resistant to antibiotics. Though staph is not generally considered an air-borne disease, there is some debate that mrsa, thought it usually is spread through contact with open sores, can remain viable on dry counters. ...Read more
