Does Bactrim Work For Prostrate Infections
I took 3 courses of bactrim in the last 2 months but the infection returns. I can't take cipro (ciprofloxacin) and nitrof didn't work. My urine tests vere negative. The urologist is treating me symptomatically. What should I do?
If the urine tests are negative or normal, then I would start to suspect something else and not "infection". Cystitis is a bladder inflammation that feels just like and infection and is a miserable problem. Interstitial cystitis would be a possibility.
But if you are saying your infection returns, then investigation into why would be next. ...Read more
Infections are invasions of some other organism (fungus, bacteria, parasite) or viruses into places where they do not belong. For instance, we have normal gut bacteria that live within us without causing problems; however, when those penetrate the bowel wall and enter the bloodstream, ...Read more
Will omnicef work on kidney infection? Was switched to omnicef from bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) ds because of rash and shaking.
Probably OK, but...: Bad luck with the allergic reactions. Antibiotic effectiveness for any infection depends on the bacteria causing it and which antibiotics are active against it. If you had a positive urine culture that was tested and found susceptible to cefdinir (Omnicef®), it will work well. If such testing wasn't done, you'll have to wait and see how it works. Discuss with the doc who prescribed it. Good luck! ...Read more
Went to doctor & hospital bad bladder infection worsening same symptoms. Fvr, chills, excruciating pain. Bactrim, (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) shot, tramadol, nothing works. Cryin?
Kidney infection: It's sounds like you may have a kidney infection (pyelonephritis). ThIs is more serious than a bladder infection since it involves the upper urinary tract. Perhaps your doctosr should consider hospilization and iv antibiotics. ...Read more

Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) is a broad-apectrum antibiotic, meaning that it target many different types of bacteria, including mrsa.

In order to be 100% certain, your would need to know what organism is causing the infection by getting cultures.
Do not take any prescription drugs without seeing your physician! ...Read more
Have antibiotic sensibilities for my infection. Says bactrim s <=20, cipro (ciprofloxacin) s <=0.25. Does that denote efficacy? Dose requirement? Other? Thanks.
Depends:: Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) goes out through the kidneys, so it would be an ideal drug to treat a urinary tract infection with this sensitive bug, but some tissues don't permit some drugs to soak into them. So the question is best answered knowing what is actually being treated. ...Read more

Given bactrim for uti and fluconazol for yeast infection. Yeast infection discharge has worsened to a greenish hue. Should I stop taking bactrim?
Return to doctor: Yeast usually causes little or no discharge, and usually white, not colored. I'm concerned something else is causing it. STDs like gonorrhea, chlamydia or trichomonas may be more likely and also can cause UTI-like symptoms. Recheck with the doctor or clinic where you are being treated. Good luck! ...Read more
I am two days late but I am taking bactrim (for cellulitis) and cipro (ciprofloxacin) (for bladder infection). I took a test but it was negative.?
Pregnancy?: First, if you are taking Bactrim you probably do not need to be on Cipro (ciprofloxacin)floxacin unless you had a urine culture showing an organism resistant to the bactrim. Secondly, you do not want to be on Cipro (ciprofloxacin) if pregnant. There are no immediate known contraindications to Bactrim for pregnant humans in the first trimester. Last, you may be pregnant and not yet have a positive test. ...Read more
I'm now taking Cipro (ciprofloxacin) because Bactrim didn't help my sinus infection. Cipro (ciprofloxacin) helped me before when I had sinusitis so will it help me now?
Cipro (ciprofloxacin) may or may: Not help, depending on the type of infection. With sinusitis, Cipro (ciprofloxacin) is not a first choice treatment. However if it helped you before, it certainly may do that again. I would make sure I see a healthcare provider sooner than later if you don't feel well after, say, 5 days being on Cipro (ciprofloxacin). And you usually need antibiotic treatment for 10-14 days minimum for bacterial sinusitis. ...Read more
This is my 15th day of 15 day treatment w/Bactrim for sinus infection. 15 min. After taking next to last pill in bottle, got hives. Related?
Possible allergy: If a person is allergic to a medication, it may take repeated exposure to the drug before the development of the allergic symptom or sign, for example, itching, hives or rash. So getting hives on the last day of Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) therapy is suggestive of allergy to the medication. Please inform your health care provider of this reaction. ...Read more
How common are serious side effects with the drug Bactrim? Is this drug safer than Cipro (ciprofloxacin)? I'm taking it for a prostate infection.
Prostate infection: Assuming your doc didn't have lab data demonstrating bacteria & antibiotic resistance (commonly referred to as culture & sensitivity), Cipro (ciprofloxacin)floxacin is better than Trimethoprim/Sulfamethoxazole at getting into the prostate. All quinolones like Cipro (ciprofloxacin) carry a Black Box warning against tendonitis & tendon rupture, which while rare, is more common in elderly patients. Check out www. Drugs. Com for info ...Read more
I've been taking bactrim and pyridium for 6 days for a UTI infection, but I still have the symptoms. What could it be? Since starting the antibiotics, I've felt better, but once the medicine wears out, it gets worse. I only have enough left to last me thr
Neither: Actually, the most recent advice from the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) is that antibiotics be restricted for simple sinusitis. There are some criteria to start antibiotics, such as symptoms greater than 10 days, high severity, etc. It's best however to have all this guided by a physician. You should be monitored while on therapy - I wouldn't just take what you have on the shelf. ...Read more
