Can avastin (bevacizumab) cause an increase of tumor markers?

Can avastin (bevacizumab) cause an increase of tumor markers?

Bevasizumab or: Avastin (bevacizumab) vies with vascular endothelial growth factor. It's action interferes with development or growth of blood vessels needed by tumors. Causes incresed blood pressure and bleeding as leading toxicity. No obvious reason that it should influence tumor markers. ...Read more

If tumor markers are consistently rising does it mean tamoxifen isn't working? My ca27-29 went from the 20's to 48 to 52 and now 66 since october.

If tumor markers are consistently rising does it mean tamoxifen isn't working? My ca27-29 went from the 20's to 48 to 52 and now 66 since october.

Setting?: Are you taking it after curative surgery (adjuvant) or to control metastatic disease? Markers can be confusing. I have to say the progressive elevation of your 27.29 is suspicious but i'm taking it out of the context of your clinical situation. I'm sure your oncologist will gladly sit down with you and explain its meaning and what he/she has in mind for next. ...Read more

Wait for report: You have to be concerned , 27.29 will be positive not just for breast(ovary , colon , liver)normal range 38-40 you are not way off also elevated in several benign diseases. Yes it is monitoring tool , relapse , recurrence takes 1-3 months to fall, best person to answer is your highly trained oncologist, wait till treatments are completed , as response will be great from current chemotherapy. ...Read more

Can surgery cause a rise in a ca 27-29 tumor marker two months after reconstructive diep flap surgery?

No: This is a tumor marker...So like all tumor markers, its value is variable. So we use it, yet not rely on any single reading because the test results fluctuate. Because of this, many doctors do not use this test. Those who use it, are cautious not to take any one value on its face value and end up repeating it 2-3 different times. So i would ask your doctor to recheck it once or twice over 3-4 mos. ...Read more

I am on Abraxane. Tumor Markers started climbing after two months. Dr. Wants to add Avastin (bevacizumab). Is this a good option? Mets to abdomen, bones & Liver.

Not a good idea: Rising tumor markers often predict tumor progression. But this is soft evidence. A more definitive way to confirm lack of response(progression) is by means of repeating Imaging studies(like X-rays/CT scan or PET scan) and compare them with prior study. If the tumor size has increased, then Abraxane is no longer useful for you. Treatment should be changed . Adding Avastin (bevacizumab) would not help the situati ...Read more

Tumor marker ca27-29 went up again from 48 to 52 to 66 since oct. Two areas biopsied came back benign. Last CT last month. Could it still be cancer?

Tumor marker ca27-29 went up again from 48 to 52 to 66 since oct. Two areas biopsied came back benign. Last CT last month. Could it still be cancer?

I'm sorry, yes: When you were first diagnosed, if this tumor marker (ca27-29) was elevated, then it's rise likely means breast cancer somewhere. Other things can make it go up. But your doctor is probably checking to see if your cancer is back. Since your tumor is er positive, bone is a common place for it to come back without symptoms. Ask your doctor to explain what the rising ca27-29 means for you! best... ...Read more

Will avastin (bevacizumab) increase survival significantly for metastic colon cancer with liver mets ? Is it a risky drug

Will avastin (bevacizumab) increase survival significantly for metastic colon cancer with liver mets ?

Is it a risky drug

Slight benefit: Bevacizumab (Avastin (bevacizumab)) is one of those drugs that is extremely expensive and often has limited benefit. Patients with metastatic colon cancer who received Avastin (bevacizumab) plus chemotherapy lived 1-2 months longer on average than those receiving chemo only. Because it has marginal benefit but costs ~$30,000 the U.K. Health Service won't pay for it. It can cause skin rash, bleeding or wound healing problems. ...Read more

I need some information about the mechanism of avastin (bevacizumab) on the body..

I need some information about the mechanism of avastin (bevacizumab) on the body..

Stops angiogenesis : Avastin (bevacizumab), and was the first commercially available angiogenesis inhibitor. Its main action is the inhibition of the function of a natural protein called vascular endothelial growth factor (vegf) that stimulates new blood vessel formation. Because most malignant tumors are highly dependant on angiogenesis to obtain a blood supply and nutrients Avastin can stop or delay growth. ...Read more

I have a history of atypical meningiomas, 2 of 4 were surgically removed & radiated, being treated now with avastin (bevacizumab).Need feedbk on the effectiveness?

I have a history of atypical meningiomas, 2 of 4 were surgically removed & radiated, being treated now with avastin (bevacizumab).Need feedbk on the effectiveness?

Malignant meningioma: Malignant meningiomas produce high levels of vascular endothelial growth factor (vegf)- this is what supports the use of avastin (bevacizumab). No clear data about the effectiveness of avastin (bevacizumab)-however a phase ii study on this topic is ongoing. At this time, the effectiveness is shown only on case reports as this one, published on clinical journal : http://annonc.Oxfordjournals.Org/content/21/12/2445.Full. D/w md. ...Read more

Can you have surgery while taking Avastin (bevacizumab)?

Can you have surgery while taking Avastin (bevacizumab)?

Avoid it, if it is p: Avastin (bevacizumab) causes interference in wound healing. So it is best to stop Avastin (bevacizumab) if you need to undergo surgery. It takes 4 to 6 weeks for the Avastin (bevacizumab) effects to go away after the last dose used.. Then it is safer to do surgery. Your oncologist as well as your surgeon can/will guide you in this regard, if you have not already been told about it. ...Read more

My sister was diagnosed with atypical meningiomanow taking avastin (bevacizumab) what is her survival rate ?

My sister was diagnosed with atypical meningiomanow taking avastin (bevacizumab) what is her survival rate ?

Good: Meningiomas are usually benign tumors with excellent prognosis. Symptoms depends on the location of tumor. Atypical meningioma is more concerning and it is in a spectrum ( worse than benign but better than malignant meningioma). The idea is to see the rate of growth, slow it if possible. If progressing, surgery, radiosurgery, or traditional radiation or combination of above are possible options. ...Read more
