The blood sugar concentration or blood glucose level is the amount of glucose (sugar) present in the blood of a human or animal. The body naturally tightly regulates blood glucose levels as a part of metabolic homeostasis. Glucose is the primary source of energy for the body's cells, and blood lipids (in the form of fats and oils) are primarily ...Read more
No direct relation: Avastin (bevacizumab)'s main function is to inhibit blood vessel formation. Due to importance of blood vessel formation in wound healing, it can cause potential complications after surgery. Avastin (bevacizumab) can also increase protein leakage from the kidneys, increase blood pressure, or risk of clots or bleeding. Avastin (bevacizumab) is used in treatment of certain cancers and certain eye conditions. It is an antibody; not chemo. ...Read more
70-99mg/dl fasting: Normal blood sugars are between 70-100mg/dl when you are in a fasting state (at least 8hrs). Diabetes is present when the number hits 126mg/dl in the fasting state. When the sugars fall in between these ranges (100-125), this would be considered impaired fasting glucose or pre-diabetes (borderline diabetes). ...Read more
I smoke rarely, every few days I would have one. Would I be able to keep a good blood glucose/sugar level if I just have just one cigarette?
Your blood: Sugar depends upon thousands of things, most of which you cannot control. You can, however, control diet, exercise, risk factors, medication, monitoring, glucose control etc. Smoking is one of those thing you an also control. On avastin (bevacizumab) for ov cancer. Could there be a spike in ca125 because tumors are shrinking/dying and spilling their content into blood stream?
Yes, it is possible: Ca 125 is a tumor marker which helps to make decisions about response or lack of it. But it takes 2-3 serial values to decide if the tumor is getting better or worse; one reading does not help as it can be rising both from tumor getting worse or getting smaller and releasing tumor chemicals, which is what ca 125 is. It takes 2-3 mos to be able to get a clear picture. Also watch other tumor aspects. ...Read more
Is high blood sugars always a sign of diabetes? In other words an my high blood sugars be high and I don't have diabetes?
High sugars=diabetes: I hear you when you ask "do I really have diabetes? " but the definition of diabetes is elevated blood sugars. The cause of the elevated sugars is either the inability of Insulin to get your sugars out of the blood circulation into your cells -insulin resistance - or from failure of the pancreas to produce enough insulin. The elevated sugars can do damage so just use it as a life challenge. ...Read more
Insulin deficiency: Even for people with type 2 dm, relative Insulin deficiency is the reason blood sugars go up. When fasting, your body has to be able to respond to the Insulin you make in order to stop the liver from making its own supply of glucose. If one is Insulin resistant or has undertreated type 1/type 2 dm, there isn't enough Insulin to turn the liver's glucose production down- it causes hi fasting sugar. ...Read more
