Some use in anxiety: This is an antihistamine. Sneezing, itching, swelling, rashes, etc. are the original targets. It was observed that anxiety seemed less severe for some. Not for reg. anxiety: Zyprexa is an antipsychotic drug and is most often used for schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and agitation with these conditions. Literature suggests that it’s good for agitation and anxiety in patients who might *normally receive* Zyprexa - like those with the conditions mentioned above - but it is not normal practice to give Zyprexa for anxiety in someone without another psychiatric disorder. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Buspirone can help: The medication is indeed classified as an antidepressant and is one of the most common prescribed in the country. Good luck. ...Read more

Ativan (lorazepam) can help with: Panic attacks. However, i encourage my patients to learn non-medication ways to handle panic and anxiety. Here is one simple tip: breath in slowly ; deeply through your nostrils. Fill your lungs with air (but not to the point of discomfort). Hold for a count of five then slowly begin to exhale through an open mouth. Repeat at least 12 times, longer if you need to. ...Read more

Gad/depression well managed w/paxil for 2mos. The last week my symptoms have increased- need to take 1-2 ativan/day to cope. Advice/is this normal?
Add CBT: I would suggest finding a skilled cognitive behavioral therapist to assist with psychological portion along with your physician who manages medication. That way, you are working with a medical doctor to manage medications while having a therapist assist with cognitive restructuring, providing behavioral tools (such as worry exposure), and other techniques for coping. Good luck! ...Read more
Lexapro (escitalopram) works wonders for depression where no others have but is somewhat stimulating..need to take low dose Ativan ...is this often prescribed ?
Lexapro (escitalopram): You are right about this particular property frequently reported about escitalopram. However, this has been mostly considered a positive effect. In some instances, the medication has to be adjusted if a stimulant effect is uncomfortable. One possibility is to adjust the dose a notch down. Also, undiagnosed bipolar conditions could be activated. Ativan (lorazepam) might not resolve this problem. ...Read more

I have severe depression, anxiety and insomnia... I just wonder is it ok to take 50mg of trazodone and 2mg ativan at the same time.
Yes: Yes, it is OK to take both of them together as needed for insomnia and Ativan for anxiety. Ativan should not be used on a continuous basis as the risk for tolerance and dependency can go up. Adequate sleep hygiene: avoidance of caffeine, heavy meals, vigorous physical exercise and stressful activities less then 2 hours before bedtime can help. You can also try CBT for your conditions. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

I am 30 years old on seroquel (quetiapine) Ativan and lexapeo for anxiety and depression?
Depression/OCD: Ocd &ocd spectrum symptoms respond best to ssri's such as lexapro, fluvoxamine ..Etc. Medications like seroquel & other more potent Dopamine blockers are used as augmentation strategies. We generally try not to use short acting benzo's such as Ativan or xanax (alprazolam) because of interdose withdrawal, tolerance and gradual elevation of baseline anxiety (with time) please discuss with your psychiatrist. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Why is klonopin (clonazepam) known to cause depression more so than zanax or Ativan.....does it work against and lower serotonin?
Klonopin (clonazepam) & mood: I'm not aware that Klonopin, Xanax (alprazolam) or Ativan cause major depression or have a significant if any effect on serotonin levels. In fact, all 3 medications can be used with antidepressants to target anxiety symptoms. Biggest concern is mild sedation and not wanting to induce drug dependence or give to anyone who will abuse these meds. If depressed mood develops, stop or lower dose and reassess. ...Read more
Can i take same methionine for my depression like my psychiatrist suggested if i'm already taking inositol, ativan, and minocin (minocycline) for my skin?
Yes, alt tx: These are alternative 'natural' remedies for depression. My experience is that they are only marginally effective alone and require multiple combinations of natural compounds to equal a standard antidepressant. The cost of all the 'natural' ingredients is often more than most meds and i wouldn't necessarily assume that they are any safer as there is no fda regulation of these 'supplements'. ...Read more

I take celexa (citalopram) 40mg daily and ativan 1mg (as needed) for depression and anxiety. My doctor just prescribed trazodone for sleep. Safe to take together?
Yes, usually...: Trazodone is another antidepressant that is often used on small doses as a sleeping pill because antidepressants are not addictive. It is usually fine to take with something like celexa (citalopram). However one must be careful about using it with Ativan and /or hydrocodone as the sedating effects can add up. It can add some extra anti anxiety effect to the picture. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
