Could artificial flavoring cause cancer?

Could artificial flavoring cause cancer?

No: I don't believe it. Government regulators tend to be zealots and each chemical added to food is checked for its ability to mutate dna. A few old food colors that did this are gone. Mother nature itself is full of cancer-causing chemicals in quantities well above what we'd accept from additives. Stop worrying, eat what you like (i prefer natural stuff) and keep up the customary watch for cancer. ...Read more

Does artificial coloring/ food coloring lead to cancer?

Does artificial coloring/ food coloring lead to cancer?

We lost: Red m&m's for decades with the "red dye #10" scare. I marvel about how we play "scare of the week" with stuff like this, yet still have tobacco sold in pharmacies and walmart. Some dyes are carcinogenic, so are nitrites in hot dogs. This means that when fed to laboratory rats, those that get substance x get some form of cancer when 100 times dose is used. Small infrequent use works. ...Read more

Studies say artificial sweetener cause people to crave more sweet & food carbs & result in wgt gain, higher sugar.True 4 natural sweetener stevia also?

Not so with Stevia: No. A study I found (http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0195666310000826) showed that with Stevia, there was no craving. Also, there was no increase in insulin levels, unlike with aspartame, which is important regarding the issue of insulin resistance. Hope that helps. ...Read more

Are sweeteners dangerous? I read that Aspartame, Sucralose, Acesulfame & Neotame can cause some cancers. My wife is pregnant & I'm worried! Thanks.

Stop worrying: Some of my teammates here will disagree, but I discount these fear claims. Just as every fruit and vegetable has somebody claiming it's a "superfood" that cures everything, so every artificial product has someone claiming it causes cancer, autism, mental illness and so forth. If these claims were true, the research piranhas at the NIH would have built reputations proving them. ...Read more

Apart from laxative effect,is sugar alcohol (erithritol) better substitute to sugar & artificial sweetener?OR is there any other disadvantage to them?

Apart from laxative effect,is sugar alcohol (erithritol) better substitute to sugar & artificial sweetener?OR is there any other disadvantage to them?

Sugar alcohols: The funny thing about sugar alcohols is that they reconstitute into actual sugar once digested. So a product can be marketed as "sugar-free" if it contains sugar alcohols, but after absorption there's sugar again. It's a marketing ploy. So yes, sugar alcohols can have bad effects on your body just like sugar. ...Read more
