Any chemical: That is foreign to the vaginal lining, can alter the bacterial component that prevents a vaginal yeast infection. I suggest an aqueous based lubricant: KY or Astroglide and discuss need for femsle hormone cream with your GYN.

Yes: Atrophic vaginitis is quite common after menopause (natural or surgical) and yeast like symptoms are frequently experienced due to the lack of estrogen effect on the vaginal mucosa. It is easily treated with oral or vaginal estrogen supplementation.

See Below: Vaginal dryness occurs when the ovaries produce a decreased amount of estrogen. This can occur at certain times in a woman's life, and may be permanent or temporary. Certain medications can cause this and some women experience this after treatment of a yeast infection. Use vaginal moisturizer and if not better, need to be seen by GYN.

Vaginitis: This could also be due to a bacterial vaginosis infection or trichomonas. You need to be examined and evaluated by a physician whom can perform a wet mount and make further assessment of the cause of your itching or discharge.

Antibiotics, Steroids, Diabetes, these are risk factors. Even severe cases are usually cured by treatment with fluconazole tablets up to two weeks in the most severe cases.
