Diet (Definition)

Refers to all the physical matter humans (like all living creatures) must take in on a recurring basis; only partially for energy. Like all life on planet humans are open systems which keep tearing down their structure & require intake of atoms/molecules from which to rebuild their structure. When I was younger, my eyes were light brown/hazel. Now they are just brown. Could going on a raw vegan diet make them light again?

All eyes darken: As we age. Nobody cares what color your eyes are now. If you do undertake this raw vegan diet idea, be sure you supplement -- there are several nutrients that it's almost impossible to get without doing this -- and don't expect any health benefits beyond the moral high ground, which it will give you.

I'm deicided to go on raw vegan diet. Is there anything I should be careful about?

Diet: Eating disorders are usually a symptom of something else going on in your life. The cure isn't a change in diet. Instead I urge you to talk out your life issues with someone you trust. I would also urge a different kind of diet. Eliminate all fast foods, high sugar foods, no sodas, anything with high fructose in it. Plan meals and stick to the plan. Pure vegan is often deficient in many areas.

What should I do to gain weight on a vegan diet?

What should I do to gain weight on a vegan diet?

More healthy carbs: If you're trying to gain weight on a vegan diet, I suggest increasing your intake of complex carbohydrates in the form of beans, quinoa, and complex grains. Also increase your intake of proteins such as hemp protein, g protein, brown rice protein, or soy protein. Plant-based that such as flaxseed, coconut oil and other polyunsaturated oils also increase healthy calories and result weight gain.

How difficult is it to raise a baby on a vegan diet?

How difficult is it to raise a baby on a vegan diet?

Supplements advised: It can be done, but there are certain essential nutrients that are difficult to obtain, so supplements help. The best food for infants is breast milk- not vegan but strongly advised. When done breastfeeding hemp or soy milk is a good protein source. Supplement with vit b12, taurine, carnitine & dha- these are hard to get from a vegan diet but are available from vegan sources, like dha from algae.

Can you tell me how could I have a balanced vegan diet?

Be VERY careful: Vegans have the moral high ground but if you do not supplement, you'll ruin your health, perhaps within a few weeks. Vitamin B12 is the deficiency everyone knows, but getting enough calcium, vitamin D (if you're not out in the sun), iodine, zinc, iron and a few others is going to be very difficult as well. Do this, and your diet is no more or less healthy than most others. Choose wisely.

Is a vegan diet healthy?

Is a vegan diet healthy?

If done carefully: There is limited research but a careful vegan diet can be very healthy; vegan diets reduce risk of obesity, high blood pressure, lower cholesterol & likely reduce cancer risk. However, certain nutrients such as vitamin b12, carnitine, taurine & dha are difficult to obtain with a vegan dirt so should be supplemented. See www. Vegetarian-nutrition. How do I get enough calcium on a vegan diet?

How do I get enough calcium on a vegan diet?

Vitamins, veggies: You can always take a vitamin with a high dose of calcium and vitamin d. More than likely though a vegan diet may be a little low in some other nutrients. I suggest seeing a nutritionist for planning purposes. Many vegetables, like broccoli, have high levels of calcium. Others have iron or allow higher absorption of iron (tomatoes). A nutritionist can give you a good healthy plan.

Do you recommend a vegetarian or vegan diet?

Do you recommend a vegetarian or vegan diet?

Animal Fat & Protein: I encourage families to include animal fat and protein in their diet, as traditional societies around the world. A well-balanced (fat/protein/carbs) nutritionally packed vegan/vegetarian diet is possible, but less probable - especially for children. http://getrealforkids. Could a vegan diet reverse arteriosclerosis?

Could a vegan diet reverse arteriosclerosis?

Depends: I respect the morality of vegetarianism but the best studies have found the actual health benefits (longevity, any major category of disease) to be elusive. We autopsy pathologists know that atherosclerosis can be reversed by lifestyle, but I would caution you very strongly against thinking that a vegan diet will be magic and ignoring fitness other evidence-based interventions.

Is going on a vegan diet a healthy way to lose weight?

Yes: In my opinion, being a vegan can be a very healthy way to eat and get to the weight that nature intended you to be. It is important to supplement with B12 if you become a vegan. Talk it over with your doctor first.

How could my cholesterol be very high if I eat a vegan diet?

How could my cholesterol be very high if I eat a vegan diet?

Diet's not the key: I hope that you will manage your cholesterol and any other coronary risk factors appropriately. Vegans have the moral high ground, but all the really big good studies I've seen have shown no impact of vegetarianism / veganism on any health or longevity parameter when we control for other lifestyle factors. I'm sorry you were deceived. Eat to please yourself and stay physically fit.

How to get the most calcium possible from food on a vegan diet?

How to get the most calcium possible from food on a vegan diet?

It's very difficult: Becoming a vegan is something you do for moral reasons rather than to improve your health, despite all the "pop" claims. You MUST supplement, for calcium, iron, B12, and several other nutrients. Get with a vegan-friendly evidence-based physician or a real-science book.

Vegetarian foods: To help with healthy weight gain: almonds, cashews, pecans, sunflower seeds, flax seeds, walnuts, hummus, avocadoes, granola, trail mix, dried fruits, extra virgin olive oil, canola oil, smoothies (with added silken tofu), pasta/ bagels ; use of juice rather than soda.

Had there ever been a study comparing a vegan diet to a paleo or gaps diet?

No good ones: So many other lifestyle variables accompany food choices that to get anything other than garbage, people would have to be randomized for a few decade to different diet and followed prospectively. That's not going to happen. Your best move is to choose your food as you like, avoiding the very sugary, greasy, and salty stuff, and exercise intensively as your body was made to do.

Vegan Diet (Definition)

Vegans undertake their diet either out of concern for the way that factory-farmed animals are treated, or because they have heard too-good-to-be-true claims about the health benefits. Anyone undertaking a vegan diet will need to supplement elaborately in order to avoid ruining their health, but I especially honor those gentle souls who do it ...Read more
