Does 2 Tsp Of Sugar Change Your Blood Test Results
I got a blood test done and the results reflect the following: TSH .328, HDL 32, triglycerides 215, alkaline 23, and blood sugar 107. What you think?
More information: Why were the tests done? Was specimen drawn after an overnight fast? If so the triglycerides are high and so is the blood sugar. Hdl is low. None of the findings are diagnostic of a disease, except, that blood sugar suggests a pre-diabetic state. It is best to discuss the results and treatment with the doctor who ordered the tests. ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers
Can I take 10mg of valium prior a blood test (full blood count, electrolytes, thyroid, glucose, b12 etc) or will it affect results? kind regards

My blood test showed CRP as 0.2 mmole/l. Is this low, normal or high? Would fasting without food or water for about 13 hrs prior affect the results?
C-reactive protein: Always get reference range w/your lab result so that you can tell whether you're low, normal or high. Reference ranges depend upon lab equipment used as well as units. CRP is usually measured in mg/l, even in bc (http://www.Healthlinkbc.Ca/kb/content/medicaltest/tu6309.Html). Typically, results. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Minimally, if at all: Remember most of the cholesterol in your body is made by your liver. Only about 1/4 of it comes in through your diet, and if you are adequately fasting (at least 8 hours), most of the dietary cholesterol should be out of your system. Also, the total and HDL (good) cholesterols are not affected much by diet, and can be checked without fasting. ...Read more
Could just a coffee 40 mins before blood test for ESR and C reactive protein influence the results? Need to do these tests today bur forget fasting.
Is my psychiatrist in the position to demand a blood panel 9? And would the drug appear in urine test or blood test she wrote CBC deff/tsh cmp uds 9
Lab work: The doctor ordered CBC with differential (which is blood cells count with count of different cell classes) TSH (which is thyroid stimulating hormone) cmp (which is comprehensive metabolic panel) uds 9 (which is urine drug screen 9-drug panel). All those are routine orders and any psychiatrist would need to know the results to properly assess a patient. There is no reason to suspect of your doctor. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Glucose 131 fasting, hgba1c 5.2..Does this mean i'm diabetic? Wasn't given medicine.Just a special diet and will be repeating labs in 3months.
Probably: The definition for diabetes is having two fasting glucose levels above 125, post prandial sugars above 200, or a hba1c above 6.5%. Your fasting glucose is above 131, but needs to be repeated to confirm. The hba1c is much lower than one would expect. Hba1c are not always accurate, especially in people with kidney disease and/or anemia. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Drinking alcohol: on a daily basis will affect the cholesterol profile, but it should not cause significant change if you drink once 2 days prior. The key is the continuous chronic nature of drinking. 1 glass of red/white wine daily may increase your good cholesterol (HDL) slightly while keeping your triglycerides and bad cholesterol a little lower. Chronic beer and liquor use will increase the total by a lot. ...Read more
Can drinking a lot of water before dried blood spot test decrease papp-a and beta hCG test results? They were both low.
Not the cause: Drinking water should not alter a blood test. You would have to drink a lot of water to dilute a test. Always discuss a test result with your doctor, he/she can explain the results and their expectation. You can bring a family member also to help write down what is said for later review. Hope this helps. ...Read more
