Proper medication for hyperthyroidism, because i can not get proper answers from doctors. They just write tests and recommend to other doctors.
Determined cause?: My assumption is that your doctors are trying to determine the exact underlying cause of your hyperthyroidism ( and there are several potential causes). To get to the cause, several tests may be needed. Depending on the underlying cause as well as severity, you may have one or more treatment options. Thyroid disorder specialists are endocrinologists who could help you. ...Read more
Hypertension: A good exercise program and a healthy diet can help, but many patients still need medication as well. If you can't afford your medicines, ask your physician and pharmacist about patient assistance programs that many pharmaceutical companies have for patients who cannot afford to pay for their medications. Don't stop your medicines without first speaking to your doctor. ...Read more
How long do I continue with the mediocre over-the-counter treatment for lice? Why don't doctors want to prescribe ovide? I
If indicated: It is not that doctors would not prescribe certain medication, it is that we are trained to follow certain guidelines to offer you the most appropriate choice of medicine keeping in mind indication, dosage, side effects and sometimes even cost. Also, we may not be comfortable with certain medications and have a tendency to use medications we are very familiar with. Ask your doctor about ovide. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Is there a specific way for testing adults with adhd? I know some doctors, psychologists, and psychiatristsdon't take insurance for tests that involve extensive work ups. What's the basic test and what could people avoid so they save money?
Neuropsych testing: Since there is no one test that is always sensitive, it can be misleading to see claims that a specific test can or cannot rule out adhd. Carefull history, current and retrospective inventories of symptoms and combinations and patterns on neuropsychological tesing is your best bet if you want to be certain about a diagnosis that is presumed lifelong and has lots of possible comorbid problems. ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers

How come there is no general health doctor that is not allowed to prescribe prescriptions? Like how there are psychiatrists (allowed to prescribe prescriptions) and psychologists (not allowed to prescribe prescriptions)?
Medical training: All physicians (including psychiatrists, who are physicians) go through extensive medical training which includes the comprehensive effects of medications on human physiology, consciousness, and behavior. They are supervised in learning to prescribe safely & effectively. Psychologist training concentrates on other areas, with some possible overlap in neurophysiology, etc. See comment below. ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers
Depends on the doc: Docs have multiple challenges is labeling anyone with a diagnosis based on symptoms rather than a recognised test.Since the treatment may involve controlled drugs, s/he must also document enough during the evaluation that a reasonable doc would agree with the label. (or risk loss of his/her license) Some choose to leave management to those that do it on a regular basis to avoid the hassle involved ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

I have to provide aetna with justification for conservative treatment. Why do they have so much power?
Aetna: Insurance companies have power because those who buy their products have given it to them. Many people never read their insurance policies before buying them, and try to get the cheapest -- only to find it was cheaper because of limited coverage. They learn this at the worst possible moment. ...Read more
Not generally: There may be some hospitals which have voted to include that as a staff requirement, but this is doubtful. The general policy these days is that all persons should be tested when they develop an illness or are being seen by a doctor, but this is not a mandate. What's more, is the fact that there is no reason for such testing for patient safety, only for the benefit of the person being tested. ...Read more

Is it legally required that I have counseling to continue taking meds for depression. I do not find counseling effective for me.
Follow the money: Right or wrong, physicians who have spent perhaps $250, 000 on their education need to make a fair living. People who write laws try to influence how medicine is practiced, hopefully so that effective rather than wasteful health care is delivered. It will never be anywhere near perfect, and we -- who are mostly honest, even altruistic souls -- hate our dysfunctional system. Thanks for asking. ...Read more
