Do doctors get feedback from the Press Ganey surveys that patients are asked to fill out after appointments? Is the information used in any way?
Used in several ways: Press-Ganey is a national company that sells its services to hospitals and doctor groups. Press-Ganey sends out surveys to patients and compiles the data to give to the doctors and hospitals. The data helps doctors decide which parts of their practices are doing very well (in the eyes of the patients) and which parts need improvement. Data may be made public (without identifiable information). ...Read more

we are new to the Waikato and Hamilton. I would like to know where to find reliable information about what GP practices we can enrol into.
Ask around: Hi Marc, there are a number of practices in Hamilton. It's a good idea to ask around. Things you may like to consider when choosing a practice include your friends/colleagues/family's opinion, qualifications and interests of the Doctor, access to your notes and booking electronically, after hours availability and practice size. Ask around and you will find a practice that suits you. ...Read moreSee 5 more doctor answers
Is there really any credibility to those books and booklet lists that rate doctors by specialties in various states? I find them useful. Are they?
Look for reviews: Sometimes yes, sometimes no. It is better to go to websites where one can read actual reviews written by patients. On HealthTap, one can go to each doctor's profile page and read his answers (to see his "speaking" bedside manner) and read reviews about him by patients and other doctors. On ratings websites (like Yelp*), one can read reviews too. Judge carefully, as not every review is believable. ...Read more

We dont get anything out of it but we try to provide as much information and knowledge to people as we can to help ease their fears of an illness they might have or provide educational background or guide them in the right direction. If the dea recently unrestricted "e-prescribing" controlled drugs, would anyone know a website where i can find more qualified doctors than in my area?
No one qualified yet: While the dea has paved the way for electronic prescribing of scheduled medications no one is actually prescribing yet. I think this is still a ways off. See the dea website under electronic prescribing of controlled substances (epcs). ...Read more

Is everybody in doctor's office entitled to know about my medical history?I only wanted my doctor to know, not the staff.I get calls from others too.
Obviously not: Everyone, such as the janitor. But everyone who is involved in your medical care is entitled to know, for your safety if nothing else. For example, if you are allergic to a certain med, you would want the nurse to know about it. If you want to keep certain information confidential, inform your doctor who will then take appropriate steps. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Just wanted to say a big thank you to all the doctors here.I live in the uk and we have nothing like this here.Your advice has been wonderful.
I have asked endodontist for some of my personal medical dental records and they refused to give me all photos. Is that legal?
Please name some antipsychotics (in their chemical names) that don't increase your prolactin levels. I live in south Africa where doctors are not well trained, i usually have to ask for meds i researc
All can: All antipsychotics -- even the atypical ones -- can increase prolactin at least transiently. http://www.jfponline.com/pages.asp?aid=602 the atypicals (risperdal, geodon, (ziprasidone) seroquel, etc) are less likely than older antipsychotics (haldol, stelazine, thorazine, etc) to do it, but at high enough dose, they will. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Here are some...: Congratulate you for bringing such inquiry; though unable to offer its answer, I wish one of my colleagues may provide right info for you. Dr. Pappas, answered my question re elavil (amitriptyline) not made in us. Several companies make generic in us, can anyone "crawl out on a limb" to say whose is best?
Generic forms: The fda monitors & regulates any pharmaceuticals sold in the usa -- including generics made overseas. These have to document precise amounts of active ingredients and bioavailability in each pill/capsule. The differences may be in fillers, coloring agents, etc -- & these can have adverse effects in some but not others. Thus, there is no "best" generic Elavil (amitriptyline) (or anything else) for everyone. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
