I got back my doctor given pregnancy test results and it said : positive (abn) what does that abn stand for?

Lab results: are always flagged as normal or abnormal. In the case of hCG, the "normal," result is negative. Positive hCG levels are flagged by the labs' automated systems as "abnormal," but that says nothing about the normality of your pregnancy. Follow your doctor's recommendations. ...Read more

Pregnancy (Definition)

When your due date arrives, you will be more than ready to have your baby! Most women deliver the baby somewhere between 37 and 42 weeks. According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, only 5% of babies arrive on the exact due date. Approximately 7% of babies are not delivered by 42 weeks, and when that happens, it is referred to ...Read more

Doc done a pregnancy test but not due period for a week so would the result still be correct?

Doc done a pregnancy test but not due period for a week so would the result still be correct?

Trust the test: Home pregnancy tests are very accurate. They are the same tests used in a doctor's office. They can detect a pregnancy 7-10 days after conception. The best time to take one is when you miss your period. If you doubt the result you can repeat it in 1-2 days. If you were pregnant the hormone level would rise enough for detection. ...Read more

A doctors post on here said you can get a positive pregnancy test result before implantation. How? Explain...

Too early to be +ve: Implantation happens about a week after ovulation but before you can get a positive home pregnancy test or blood pregnancy test. An implanting embryo is making tiny amounts of pregnancy hormone (HCG) but not enough to detect in your blood or your urine, until the levels get higher about 10 days to 2 weeks after ovulation - three days or less before your missed period if you're regular. ...Read more

Is it true that pregnancy results depend on the level of hCG being detected on a pregnancy test. Can the level be so low that doctors draw blood?

Is it true that pregnancy results depend on the level of hCG being detected on a pregnancy test. Can the level be so low that doctors draw blood?

Yes, most pregnancy : Tests depend on the detection of a certain level of HCG in the blood. It takes about a week after fertilization (sex that results in pregnancy) for any pregnancy test to be positive (even the blood test). After that time, the blood test will reliably detect pregnancy, and after 2-4 days the urine dipstick test will reliably detect pregnancy. ...Read more

My doctors do not regularly test blood unless absolutely necessary. Is there a good home pregnancy test I can use that would give me reliable results?

My doctors do not regularly test blood unless absolutely necessary. Is there a good home pregnancy test I can use that would give me reliable results?

For sure: I admit I do not know what products are available in the UK, but in the US all drug stores carry good reliable home pregnancy tests. I'd be fairly certain this is true in the UK as well: I suggest go to a pharmacy and browse the shelves. Hope this helps. ...Read more

Is a first response early result pregnancy test more accurate then a dr.S office urine test? My home pregnancy test was pos but doc office was neg!

Not likely.: No test is 100% accurate, unfortunately. I'd suggest waiting a week, repeating the home test, and if it's still positive, going back to your doctor's. If the doctor's office urine test is still negative, your doctor can order a blood test for pregnancy, which is more accurate. ...Read more

Hi doc, last month and until now im not having my menstruation cycle i got a pregnancy test result but it was negative what should i do??

Wait it out: Menstrual irregularities are not uncommon and anovulatory cycle is a common cause. If you miss more than two periods it would be time to see your doctor.
