I've been taking advicor for five years and now my doctor is switching me to zocor (simvastatin). How long does the niacin stay in your body.. Flushing?
Good question: I researched your question: the half life of extended release Niacin in Advicor (lovastatin and niacin) is very variable, & depends on gender, dose, & individual characteristics. It peaks 5 hours after a single dose. Following years of treatment, it's probably safe to assume that it will take days (3-5) to wear off completely. Possibly longer depending on dose. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

How do I know these are real medical doctors on this app? Why would they give free medical advice?

As you probably know, pharmacists, psychologists, phlebotomists, physical therapists etc...Are also on this website. I guess it is hard to be 100% sure, thus when in doubt, check with your own doc. Why do doctors refer to sleep disorders if most advice ends up being hygienic, shouldn't this be treated medically? Or is that not often possible?
"First, do no harm" : is still part of the Hippocratic oath we take. A careful history and physical may reveal the source of delayed-onset sleep or early waking as stress- or habit-related rather than sleep apnea in adults. Pills don't teach skills; learning what stimulants a person takes, diagnosing depression & teaching good sleep hygiene are important steps before prescribing potentially harmful medications. ...Read more

Facing Ur What-Ifs: We tend 2seek reassurance that the things we fear won't happen. But no one can guarantee that what u fear won't happen. Even talking about "likelihood" may not help. Partnership: The best treatment relationships are partnerships between patients and their physicians. Your physician has much training and experience that can be useful to you in assessing your health and recommending treatments. Ideally, you & your doctor are discussing options -- and you're able to have your questions answered. If uncomfortable with treatment recommendations, you can seek a second opinion. ...Read more
Clomid (clomiphene) works for low: Clomid (clomiphene) works for low testosterone in men. It works because it makes the male brain think you are very low on estrogen. Since men need some estrogen, and men don't have ovaries to make estrogen, the brain sends a signal to the testicles to make more testosterone and tries to convert some testosterone to estrogen later. Beware, daily Clomid (clomiphene) will quickly stop working. Every other day is better. ...Read more
