My ears hurt a lot and I have severe throat pain. It's not strep throat or mono. What do I have?

Viral infection: If you have been tested for strep throat and mono and been told you don't have them, you most likely have a sorethroat caused by the common cold virus. It could less commonly be caused by the influenza virus. This will run its course and you do not need antibiotics for a viral infection. Try Tylenol (acetaminophen) or ibuprofen for pain and fever. Stay hydrated.

Diag w/strep on 9/3, pres. Prednisone & antibiotic - throat is ok - ears hurt a little - after work, I have neck & should pain esp to turn - related?

I don't think so: I do not think that it is related. You could have some muscle sprain or spasm on the neck /shoulder area related to something else like your occupation/work out etc.

Thrush: You may have developed oral thrush, see your doctor for a proper diagnosis and treatment. It is not an allergy, it may be a fungal infection of the throat.

Consistant headache, sore throat, ear pain, gums hurt, body aches, nauseous, negative for strep throat and the flu taken amoxilin,?

2 separate problems: These 2 problems should be addressed separately. 1. swollen gums - can be a sign that you already have, gum disease or dental abscess. See your dentist. 2. Headache, sinus aches, coughing- seasonal flu is very common viral infection with symptoms you have described. Usually the condition resolves on its own with home care. Drink water, NSAIDs and get a good rest.

My throat hurts, but not in a strep throat way. My ears also hurt and the pain sort of feels like in the inner part. Whatshould I do?

My throat hurts, but not in a strep throat way. My ears also hurt and the pain sort of feels like in the inner part. Whatshould I do?

Rule out TMJ: Many medical and dental issues can cause that symptom but commonly it may be tmj, muscle spasm and trigger points in the medial and lateral ptyergoid muscles, masseter and temporalis muscles. Capsulitis of the TMJ can lead to similar symptoms as can a dental never abscess in a lower molar.

So yesrerday I went to the doctor and I have strep throat he gave me meds. But today I notice a lump behind my ear it's firm and round it don't hurt?

Maybe a lymph node: This firm, round lump may be a lymph node, showing that your immune system is trying to do its job. Not unusual to have such lymph node swelling when you have a strep throat. If concerned, contact your doctor and let him/her examine you again.

I had strep throat one week ago and the doctor gave me penicillin. I'm fine now but now my right ear hurts really bad. Can this be an ear infection?

I had strep throat one week ago and the doctor gave me penicillin. I'm fine now but now my right ear hurts really bad. Can this be an ear infection?

Maybe, maybe not: It may just be fluid trapped behind a swollen eustachian tube. If it is an ear infection, plain penicillin may not be an effective drug to fix it. A followup with your doc may be necessary to sort this out.

Had dizzy spell, inner ear congested, area under ear on neck hurts to touch. Also sore throat, nasal congestion. Tests for flu & strep throat neg.

Had dizzy spell, inner ear congested, area under ear on neck hurts to touch. Also sore throat, nasal congestion. Tests for flu & strep throat neg.

Since you had flu: And strep tests, I'm assuming you had your whole body examined. Did they mention if you had fluid behind your eardrum? It sounds like you could have a middle or inner ear infection. I would follow up with your doctor and be examined again. You may need some lab work done or a referral to a specialist if the doctor you're seeing can't find a reason for your symptoms.

Does drainage from allergies give you a sore throat and make your ears hurt?

Yes and no.: Post-nasal drips may cause some throat irritation but it is the nasal congestion which may cause a middle ear infection. You should check with your doctor to find out why your ears are hurting.

Typical: Headache is typical for strep throat, it is a definite part of this illness. You can treat the headache with motrin 10 mg per kilogram per dose every 8 hours. If he has strep he should be on a course of penicillin for 10 days.

Strep test negative. 4 plus weeks of sore throat when swallowing on right side. Severe throat pain when sneezing. No congestion or ear pain.?

Nopostnasal drip?: This could cause 1 sided throat pain. If not, see an ENT Dr. And get scoped in the nose to see the back of the throat. They should be able to diagnose your problems. If you do have postnasal drip, try flonase or rhinocort nasal spray and see if this helps.

Can you have strep throat without a fever? And possibly an ear infection as well? Worst sore throat ever for 4 days now and ear pain but no fever?

Can you have strep throat without a fever? And possibly an ear infection as well? Worst sore throat ever for 4 days now and ear pain but no fever?

Yes: You may have strep throat without fever. Can be very difficult to swallow, so bad you can't swallow your own saliva. A simple swab test can diagnose or exclude strep throat in a very short time, and you can then initiate antibiotic therapy. If you do have strep throat, you are contagious until you've been on treatment for at least 24 hrs. Get seen soon. Good luck.
