Do you think ill later have hassles if my 9 year old ignores me all the time?

Get opinions + pick: Every dental dilemma has multiple solutions. Do your homework, interview several dental professionals, select a treatment plan and dentist that fits your criteria and then move forward to invest in your oral health. 69 years old is still young and it is not uncommon for me to place dental implants or do orthodontics on people in their 80's. It is not only appearance, but a quality of life issue! ...Read more

Your : Your child probably has fecal retention syndrome. He is essesntially holding his poop. The best treament for this is a laxative called miralax (polyethylene glycol). He should take about 1/2 to 1 capful per day for up to six to nine months. It is important for him and his poop to part as friends for a long time. The reason his stool is in his underwear is not that he is not wiping well is that he is having breakthrough or fecal soiling from the liquid poop going around the hard, large stool in his colon. If the symptoms continue you should see your local doctor. ...Read more

Hi, my 9 year old son is poorly every week. His CPR IS 47 & CBC normal. He gets constant viruses but nobody else gets ill! What could cause this?

Hi, my 9 year old son is poorly every week. His CPR IS 47 & CBC normal. He gets constant viruses but nobody else gets ill! What could cause this?

Frequent colds: It is normal for children to have frequent colds- 6-10 in a year. Attending school exposes him to viral illnesses. If he is around cigarette smokers he is likely to have more frequent colds. Another possibility is that he has allergic rhinitis in addition to viral infection especially if there are pets in the household. Follow up with your child's doctor if you have additional concerns. ...Read more

My 9 year old son has c-diff and samonella for the second time he is on vancomicin but today when he cath his urine is cloudy and has white tissue?

Urine cx: The vancomycin should treat both organisms, C diff/salmonella. Lots of fluids, cranberry juice. Cx needs to be looked at by urine sample to the lab. Then, after a pedi MD reviews the urine culture, the sensitivity to the organisms per medicine can be treated correctly. A pedi MD can see this result thru the staff per health tap and f/u. ...Read more

Hi my 9 year old daughter says her tummy hurts and her face feels numb. She thought she was going to be sick but hasn't . This is the second time?

Hi my 9 year old daughter says her tummy hurts and her face feels numb. She thought she was going to be sick but hasn't . This is the second time?

Tummy and face...: Touch her face and ask if she can feel your touch. If she can, her face is not numb. "numb" means no feeling. If the stomach pain persists, have her checked by her doctor. If no physical cause can be found, consider that with this combination of symptoms, she might be expressing anxiety. Children often manifest anxiety in a physical way. ...Read more

9 yr old has benign acute myositis for the second time in a year. Both times while recovering from a virus. Could this indicate an ongoing condition?

9 yr old has benign acute myositis for the second time in a year. Both times while recovering from a virus. Could this indicate an ongoing condition?

Less likely: Myositis is a clinical diagnosis based on concurrent viral illness. fever is often associated with it. Acute onset, and recovery. Yes there are several viruses that can cause it, common ones being influenza this time of the year. Confirmation is by doing a CPK-MB fraction assay. Without such information recurrent episodes have to be looked at further. ...Read more

My son's right chest muscle hasn't developed. He's nine years old and is starting to notice his body. he's keeps asking why??

Poland sequence ?: There is a known anomaly called the Poland sequence that occurs in ~1/20000 births where the pectoralis (chest muscle) does not develop. It affects males more than females & about 10% have some knit fingers on the same side. The cause is unknown but some speculate poor development of the subclavian artery that supports the muscle is the issue. I would consult with a medical geneticist for confirmat ...Read more

My 9 year old wets the ever day, what should I do?

My 9 year old wets the ever day, what should I do?

See the doctor.: First, your child needs to be evaluated by your pediatrician to make sure there's no underlying cause (infection, anatomic issues, constipation, etc). If there isn't, the most effective management for bedwetting is using a bedwetting alarm, in addition to frequent bathroom trips during the day and emptying fully each time. Your pediatrician can give you ordering information for the device. ...Read more
