Dr. Referring me to an endo. Because my TPO antibody test came back 26 rather than <21 is this indicating something? Have thyroid symptoms too.

Need full panel.: The presence of these antibodies does not obligate you to have a problem with your thyroid, now or even in the future. But you do need a full set of thyroid blood tests if you are symptomatic. This would be TSH, total T4, free T4, total T3 and T3 uptake. Perhaps a thyroid ultrasound and scan. ...Read more

My thyroid functioning test is normal, but my thyroid antibody test shows tg <1.00 iu/ml reference is 4.11 tpo <0.16 iu/ml reference is 5.6?

It is normal: That means normal. You are fine and you don't have to worry. You are not supposed to have antibody to tg or antibody to tpo. If you do-that means you may have autoimmune thyroiditis. ...Read more

antithyroid microsomal antibodies (also called anti-TPO), thyrotropin receptor antibodies (TRAbs) and thyroglobulin antibodies. Mainly the first.

My thyroid antibodies came back with a level of 662. All other thyroid tests came back normal. My ggt was 293. Are they related?

Need more info: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Having said that, why were the tests done? You may be at risk for hypothyroidism. The issues may or may not be related. Do follow-up with your doctor.
Wish you good health! - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. My doctor told me I have thyroid antibodies. She ran a bunch of test and said everything was okay. Should I get a second opinion. What does it mean?

Thyroid antibodies: Sometimes we make antibodies to our own organs. The antibodies may result in damage to the organ, but when the damage might result in symptoms is not known. If she "checked" you, she probably looked at your thyroid hormone levels. You need to be rechecked periodically, but not right now. Request copies of the tests and ask her to explain what they mean at an office visit, and ask when to recheck. ...Read more

My thyroid antibodies test came back as 10.6 (should be less than 1.8) I have been diagnosed with Graves. Should l be concerned about my results?

Thyroid antibodies: You do not say which antibodies are positive. TPO antibodies are found in either Graves or Hashimotos. TSI is part of Graves. Either way, antibodies don't impact the treatment plan. If you are hyperthyroid (elevated FT4) then you need treatment, typically medications, radioactive iodine, or surgery. Talk to your Endocrinologist about the options. ...Read more

Negative result for thyroid peroxidase antibodies tpoab. Necessary to test my thyroglobulin antibodies tgab?

Anti-thyroglobulin: Studies have shown that 99% of patients with hashimoto's thyroiditis have anti-microsomal antibodies, whereas only about 1/3rd had anti-thyroglobulin antibodies. In addition, 10-20% of persons without thyroid problems have anti-throglobulin antibodies (tg-a). These persons are likely at higher risk for future problems and should be watched more closely however, testing for tg-a is not necessary. ...Read more

Deciphering a thyroid hormone test result: is an antithyroglobulin antibody titer of 1:50 too high, or is it alright?

It depends: Antithyroglobulin antibody is not a thyroid hormone test. It tells you nothing about the function of your thyroid. It can indicate that you have autoimmune thyroid disease, but your level is not very high. Mild elevations are non-specific and occur more commonly in the population as we get older. Thyroid function is indicated by t4, tsh, and T3 (liothyronine) levels. ...Read more

My blood test showed an elevated level of tg antibodies. Does that mean I have cancerous cells running around? Had papillary thyroid cancer a year ago

My blood test showed an elevated level of tg antibodies. Does that mean I have cancerous cells running around? Had papillary thyroid cancer a year ago

Not necessarily.: Having elevated tg antibodies primarily means that the more important tg test itself will be falsely lower than its true value. (no conversion formula exists.)

if your tg antibodies are only 20 or so, with an undetectable tg level, it is hard to know what that means. If your tg antibodies are much higher, then concern for the presence of thyroid cancer would increase. ...Read more

Would any type of thyroid disease (hypothyroid/hyperthyroid/any other kind of thyroid disease) effect an HIV antibody test?

Would any type of thyroid disease (hypothyroid/hyperthyroid/any other kind of thyroid disease) effect an HIV antibody test?

No: The most common cause of a false negative HIV antibody test is testing during the "window period" between the time of viral transmission and acute HIV seroconversion. False positive tests are rare and usually result from labeling errors. I am unaware of any bearing that thyroid disease may have on the accuracy of HIV antibody assays. ...Read more

You probably have thyroid disease and see your current physician first. You may have to see an endocrinologist, a physician who specializes in the diseases of the endocrine system. ...Read more

I had a thyroglobulin antibody test taken and the results were 320. What does this mean? Should I be concerned about lupus, hashimoto's disease or thyroid cancer? I have been diagnosed with hypothyroid and the medicine I have been taking in addition to ve

Hashimoto's you have: You had become hypothyroid because you have hashimoto's thyroiditis, which was confirmed by the elevated thyroglobulin activity. My blood results came back normal but I still don't feel right? Tests for thyroid, antibodies, low test (TSH, T4, T3) and testicular. Physically

Work with your team: When people just don't feel right in a general way, blood tests such as you had rarely give the answer. You need to find a provider (either MD or NP) who will listen to your complaints, get more history, and not just order tests. Perhaps you are not getting enough sleep or have some form of depression or mood disorder. Lots to consider and you need to see someone for more than 10-15 minutes ...Read more

Thyroid Ab's and...: Many people who are clinically hypothyroid have normal tests as what is normal is debatable. Many believe any TSH above 3 is too high, some even above 2. Check anti-thyroglobulin and TPO antibodies but also test Free T3 (liothyronine) and Reverse T3 (liothyronine).
