My 8 yo had fever/cough x 5 days. Found out today he has pneumonia. Think it's bacterial because of quick onset. What are chances of siblings get it?

My 8 yo had fever/cough x 5 days. Found out today he has pneumonia. Think it's bacterial because of quick onset. What are chances of siblings get it?

Maybe, maybe not : Most forms of bacterial pneumonia are not particularly contagious and arise from a preexisting problem like a cold or other viral process that is invaded by opportunist germs from the airway. The common pneumonia germ is carried by many in their nasal passages and throat. I drank about 3 cups of coffee and am kind of having truoble breathing? I always think i get pneumonia but no chills or fever. Can you tell me please?

Caffeine: Caffeine in coffee ramps up your sympathetic nervous system, increasing heart rate, respiratory rate, etc. Some people feel alarmed with such physiological changes, anxiety mounts -- breathing becomes more rapid and shallow along with the sensation of difficulty getting breath. Most likely you're having a response to the caffeine and it will wear off. You may need more help w/anxiety overall. ...Read more

Not contagious..: There is not an absolute moment one can predict when one is no longer contagious with an infectious disease like pneumonia. While having had pneumonia (unless you have an underlying chronic disease) is not an indication for the vaccine, many docs would give..anytime now. ...Read more

May not be pneumonia: If you are an otherwsie healthy patient the liklhood that you would have recurrent infection with the sam bacteria is not lilely. More likely is that you have an ellemnt of allergies or possibly asthma that predispose to prolonged and recurrent episodes of congestion. Certainly if you feel short of breath or are coughing, a repeat visit to the doctor is in order. ...Read more
