Do You Cough With Strep Throat
Was diagnosed and treated for strep throat on Oct 13, it's now Nov 1 and I still have a cough; no other symptoms. How much longer is this expected?
The cough reflex is a protective mechanism that uses muscles in your throat and chest to expel mucous and saliva that may contain pathogens that would otherwise possibly be inhaled via aerosol or to expel pathogens infecting the throat and respiratory system. Cough benefits the host by reducing load and benefits the pathogen which may then spread via aerosol. ...Read more
Do you take your child to the doctors for every sniffle and cough because it might be strep throat?
No: If they are not old enough to tell you they have a sore throat, the chances of their having strep related complications are almost non-existent. Some infants & toddlers can carry strep when they are not sick or when they really have a simple viral illness. There are conflicting thoughts as to whether these should ever be treated just because strep is found on a quick test. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Diagnosed with strep throat on sunday still not feeling better amoxicillin for 3 days now I have a cough n throat still soar and swollen?
Should be better.:
After 3 days of treatment, you should be getting a little better. It is possible that you have a resistant strain of strep and that you need a different antibiotic. It is also possible that you have something else going on as well - usually strep infections do not cause a cough. I would recommend that you get in to be seen for reevaluation.
Good luck and get better! ...Read more
